A. Dempsey "Give me a boat that can carry two and both shall row, my love and I." From a rich, vibrant Celtic tradition comes the memorable tune "The Water is Wide," lovingly crafted to evoke misty Scottish landscapes with rolling green hills (you can almost smell the heather). This unabashedly romantic acoustic guitar quartet is perfect for weddings, ceilidhs (or any Celtic-themed event), recitals and concerts. For wedding music, this arrangement is recommended as a prelude, unity candle accompaniment, a bridal march or a bridesmaid processional.
As sacred music, "The Water is Wide" is effective as a prelude, postlude, an offertory, silent prayer accompaniment or special music for traditional church services and other worship events. This melody has been used in multiple hymn settings, including "The Gift of Love," "Though I May Speak with Bravest Fire," and as an alternate melody for "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross." 15 pages of music (that includes the score and separate two-page pullout parts for each guitar). A wintry landscape, a miracle, a wondrous season: all these are evoked in this traditional English Christmas carol that's also popular among Celtic music fans.  Arranged as a jubilant guitar quartet, this snowy atmospheric music is recommended for Christmas plays, pageants and programs, holiday recitals and Christmas concerts as well as traditional Christmas church services and other seasonal worship events.  Suggested uses: prelude, postlude, offertory, interlude, Christmas play overture, special music and silent prayer accompaniment.  Key: G major.  14 pages of music (that includes the score and separate two-page parts for guitar 1, guitar 2, guitar 3 and guitar 4)   What can I give Him, poor as I am?   If I were a shepherd, I would give a lamb.   If I were a wise man, I would do my part   But what can I give Him?  Give Him my heart. . The actual melody is much older and its origin unknown. The arrangement here is intended for an ensemble of guitars of mixed levels of experience. The verses and chorus are set in both G major, A major and then G major again. Groups can shorten or lengthen a performance if desired, according to experience.Arrangement details are as follows:Guitar 1 - has the main melody and also plays in harmony with Guitar 2. Higher-position playing is required later in the arrangement, if the the full version is performed.Guitar 2 - often harmonises, and plays in canon with Guitar 1. There is some high-position playing required in the full version.Guitar 3 - is intended for beginners and is an optional part. It consists of dotted half notes (minims) throughout.Guitar 4 - has chords throughout. I have provided chord symbols for those familiar with this system.
