60 pieces with his favorite melodies. (Among them is an instrumental
he composed for his wife, called "Song for Sheila.")
The music is diverse in genre and mood, but each piece is compelling in its own way.
Included are folk tunes, a classical piece, hymns, a patriotic song,

World traveling fingerstyle guitarist Pat Kirtley presents 17 solo guitar arrangements of traditional Irish tunes including a few original compositions in the same vein by himself, Pierre Bensusan, and Duck Baker. As all of the tunes in this 1997 recording were arranged in altered tunings (DADGAD, EADEAE or DADEAD), each appears in both standard notation and tablature with insightful performance notes. In general, these transcriptions from Pat Kirtley's 1997 album of the same title are extremely accurate; The Red-Haired Boy, however, played as a duet with Steve Rector on the album - appears as a solo arrangement in this book. Recommended for the intermediate to advanced player, the author provides insightful performance notes for each tune.

Ae Fond Kiss is perhaps the most popular love song by the great Scottish poetRobert ‘Rabbie’ Burns.
The poem (its fulltitle being Ae Fond Kiss and then we sever) is usually sung to themelody set here; the traditional Scottish tune 'Mo run an diugh mar an déthu'.
The text of the poem was inspiredby Burns’ friendship with Agnes Maclehose of Edinburgh. Burns wrote the poemfor her in 1791 when she left Edinburgh to join her husband in Jamaica.
The beautiful words tell of thesadness of parting, and it is this sentiment that the player should try tocommunicate when performing Ae Fond Kiss.
