String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890766 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 34 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781033. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890766). Vivaldi’s violin concerto in D major, RV 208, survives in three manuscripts:Vivaldi’s autograph score, conserved in Turin. [This edition is based on this source]A copy of the parts, conserved in the Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Günther Uecker [de] in Schwerin.Another copy of the parts conserved in Cividale del Friuli. The Grosso Mogul title appears on the Schwerin manuscript, which was written before 1717. According to Michael Talbot, the name of the concerto can possibly be linked to Domenico Lalli’s Il gran Mogol opera libretto, a setting of which had been presented in Naples in 1713. Later settings of this libretto include Giovanni Porta’s, staged in Venice in 1717, and Vivaldi’s RV 697 (1730).The Schwerin and Cividale del Friuli copies of the concerto contain two variants of extended cadenzas for unaccompanied violin, in the first and last movements of the concerto. The autograph version indicates where such cadenzas can be inserted in these movements, but does not contain the cadenzas. A manuscript with the written-out cadenzas must have been circulating before c. 1713–1714 when Bach transcribed such version for solo organ (BWV 594).An earlier version of the concerto, RV 208a, was probably composed by c. 1712–1713. This version has a different middle movement than the RV 208 version.Vivaldi seems to have had no supervision over the Op. 7 collection, published around 1720 in Amsterdam by the Roger firm, in which the older RV 208a version of the concerto was retained. This version of the concerto does not contain the extended cadenzas, nor an indication where such cadenzas could be inserted. String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.796682 Composed by Gary D. Belshaw. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 67 pages. DR GARY D BELSHAW #3531727. Published by DR GARY D BELSHAW (A0.796682). 67 pages, including score and a complete set of string parts: 8-8-5-5-5. Duration 4 minutes.Subtitled: The Birth of the French Resistance Movement During World War II. The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most famous monuments in Paris, in France - indeed, in the world. It stands at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. On the date given in the title of this composition, the German Army marched through the monument and down the historic street, marking the beginning of the German occupation of France. The date also marks the beginning of one of the most historic - and heroic - movements in history to regain the freedoms which were suddenly lost on that day.June 14, 1940, serves as an artistic rendering of that moment in history, as well as the years that followed. The music is at times hesitant, awkward, restrained. These are traits of the heroes who risked their lives for the cause. Each of the fours verses builds in intensity. The fourth verse, the most impassioned, fades slowly away, as if returning to hiding places or pushing ever deeper underground. A bridge between verses 2 and 3 (Rehearsal B) struggles to offers hope in dark times. A brief scene of 12-tone rows lends a sense of the kind of striking and then hiding for which such freedom fighters are known. The ambience of the entire work is a tribute to heroism, to those who risk everything for a noble purpose or cause.Perfect for use in a patriotic or other historical educational event, as well as in recital or concert. The music could serve as a background for a visual presentation on World War II or any of its components. Offer this work for church or community observances of National Holidays, such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1183534 Composed by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. Georges. Arranged by Robert Debbaut. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,World. 28 pages. ROBERT DEBBAUT #783207. Published by ROBERT DEBBAUT (A0.1183534). How is it that one can be born a slave in French colonial Guadeloupe and rise to be among Paris’ musical giants, to become a colonel in the French Army as well as the frequent dinner guest of princes and potentates? The story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, is surely an interesting one, even the stuff of which movies are made.Joseph Bologne’s father, Georges Bologne de Saint-Georges was a French planter. Saint-Georges was the name of his plantation. He impregnated Anne, the Senegalese slave of his wife, who bore him a son in 1745. Uncharacteristic of many of these sort of relationships he acknowledged the child was his and gave him his family name. When he was seven Bologne’s father took him to Paris for his education, enrolling him in a boarding school. Two years later he and the child’s mother returned to France and set up housekeeping as a family in Paris’ Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. At age thirteen Joseph’s father enrolled him in the Royal Technical Academy of Fencing and Swordsmanship. He quickly became the finest swordsman in the academy, perhaps in all of Paris. Upon graduation he was made an Officer of the King’s Bodyguard and a chevalier (an honorary knighthood). He went on to serve tours of duty in the French Army during the Seven Years War (1756-1763) and later after the French Revolution, where he was Colonel and commander of an all-Black regiment of the Revolutionary Army. All this in spite of the fact that French law forbade him, a man of African heritage, to become a citizen, to retain his father’s royal title of “Gentleman of the King’s Chamber,†or to marry outside his class. There is limited information about Bologne’s musical training, but he was obviously so well-skilled that Italian violinist-composer Antonio Lolli (1725-1802) wrote two violin concertos for him and French composer François-Joseph Gossec (1734-1829) dedicated his set of String Trios, Op. 9 to Bologne. Lolli may have worked with him on violin technique and Gossec composition, but this may be apocryphal. Bologne played in Gossec’s orchestra, and was later both leader and conductor of the group. As a composer Joseph Bologne was quite prolific, composing six operas, fourteen violin concertos, four symphonies concertantes, and numerous chamber works and songs. His Six String Quartets, Op. 1, Nos. 1-6 date from 1770-1771 and were published by the Paris publishing house of Jean-Georges Sieber (1738-1822) in 1773 (There are a total of 18 quartets: Six Quartets “au goût du jour†[up-to-date] from 1779 and the Opus 14 set of six which date from 1785). The Opus 1 quartets are dedicated to Anne Louis Alexandre de Montmorency (1724-1812), 7th Prince of Robeck (Robecq) and Grand Duke of Spain. The Opus 1 quartets all display a similarity to the Italian opera overtures from earlier in the Eighteenth Century (often called “sinfoniaâ€) in that they have an overall “A-B-A†form with the ‘A’ sections being robust allegros and all ‘B’ sections marked “rondo.†As such, in arranging them for string orchestra it seemed quite natural to rename them “overtures.†Certain liberties were taken by the arranger in order to maintain the integrity of the classic Rondo formula. All six have been arranged in this manner for string orchestra. They vary in length from twelve to almost twenty minutes. If you wish to obtain parts, write to debbaut@gmail.com and pay $42 via venmo or $40 via personal check and they will be sent to you in pdf format.

String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1389128 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Kenneth Atkins. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. 90 pages. RēsFacta Editions #972651. Published by RēsFacta Editions (A0.1389128). Gabriel Fauré's Pelléas et Mélisande, Op. 80, is a suite of incidental music composed in 1898 for Maurice Maeterlinck's play of the same name. Fauré's composition is renowned for its delicate and evocative portrayal of the mysterious and tragic atmosphere of Maeterlinck's symbolist drama. The suite consists of four movements:  Prélude: The Prelude sets the mood for the entire piece, introducing listeners to the ethereal and melancholic world of Pelléas et Mélisande. Fauré's masterful orchestration creates an otherworldly atmosphere, with shimmering strings, delicate woodwinds, and haunting harmonies.  Fileuse: This movement, often translated as Spinning Song, depicts Mélisande at her spinning wheel. The music captures the hypnotic rhythm of spinning, with gentle, flowing melodies and a sense of introspection.  Sicilienne: The Sicilienne is perhaps the most famous movement of the suite. Its graceful melody, accompanied by a gentle dance-like rhythm, evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing. Fauré's use of the Sicilian rhythm lends the piece a timeless quality, transporting listeners to a world of beauty and sorrow.  Mort de Mélisande: The suite concludes with the Death of Mélisande. This movement is a powerful culmination of the emotional journey depicted throughout the music. Fauré's music reflects the tragic climax of Maeterlinck's play, with poignant melodies and rich harmonies conveying a sense of grief and finality.Overall, Fauré's Pelléas et Mélisande Op. 80 is a masterpiece of impressionistic music, capturing the emotional depth and beauty of Maeterlinck's timeless tale.
