But I also had a number of players who could move faster and play more challenging rhythms and notes than others. What to do? How about a simple arrangement with flexible part assignments?JINGLE THOSE BELLS! is a super-easy setting of Jingle Bells. The work opens with the traditional unison rendition of the melody, as found in almost every beginner band method book ever written. But then, after a brief pause, the melody is repeated, but now faster and with the addition of a bass line and rhythmic accompaniment. The rhythmic accompaniment is provided by several of your best clarinet, sax, and trumpet players who play the Advanced Part. And if you are short on bass voice instruments, you can utilize the optional bass parts for Alto Sax. Super flexible and a bit humorous, it takes a little score study to realize how adaptable this piece is. Guaranteed to work with your beginners! (PS: the printed music shows Callie May, our cat, as arranger. I gave her credit so my wife could play more than one piece by me at her holiday concerts without looking too biased! Consider pairing this work with another one of my super-easy beginner band works - JOY TO THE KING – also available online here).NOTE: this Digital Download is assembled with the Advanced Clarinet parts appearing as page 1 so you may view it on the web site as you listen to the sound file. Schools and music centers will recognize the scenario where your last cohort of new starters has been playing a little while, your trumpeters can play most of a C scale, your clarinet players can manage quite well below the break (so long as they have a reed that works), and your saxophone players have just discovered the volume control! They are keen and enthusiastic to take part in their first concert. This piece gives them the opportunity to play a fun piece with a band, with any number of their peers (strength in numbers!).The Wind Band is scored with multiple cues to enable performance from non standard instrumentation, plus additional parts for example in Eb and treble clef to cater for Tenor Horn, Baritone and Trombone etc. Parts are also designed to scale dynamically (play if directed comments) to balance the size of the solo group.The PDF is in A4 portrait (44 pages) and contains a full score and parts. The duration of the piece is just over 2 minutes 30 seconds.Note that the difficultly level for the soloists is Easy/Beginner, whilst the level for the band is intermediate and over, roughly about band grade 2/3.

Published by Drennan Music Publications (A0.921039). This one was requested by a student a few years ago and it turned into my Concert Band’s favorite piece that year. A few things about this piece. First thing is that I had a large number of solid Alto Saxophone players when I arranged this. So there are two Alto Saxophone parts that are fairly even in skill level. Second thing is that there are a few punches that I pulled and a few I did not when it comes to simplifying the original piece for beginners. The triplet at the end of the main melody I changed to two eighth notes, and the Clarinets stay under the break. I left the accidentals as is, so there are Câ™s and a few others that are challenging. The harmonies in the B section of the main melody were left as is, as well as the rhythm in measures 41 to 47.
