Selling over a million copies in the UK, it reached number four in the UK singles chart. Always a favourite for weddings, Capriccio Quartet recorded it for their repertoire, and it is a song that easily lends itself to a string arrangement.I chose to stick to the original key of D, a great key for string players. At times I have thickened the texture by using double stopping. In this arrangement I have tried to use an open string wherever possible. In some cases there are bare fifths. If you prefer you can choose one of the notes to play instead, especially if this note is doubled in another part. I have also put in some bowing, but the endgame is to feel comfortable, so please feel free to change it and alter the slurring if it makes it easier. I have given the cellist some solos, but everyone in the quartet has some time in the sun in this arrangement. And don’t be afraid to use open strings in this piece, especially in the semi- quavers. They sound great!I am aiming this quartet at the professional market, for weddings and other events, but I am hopeful that younger players will also have the courage to try it, even if the intention is not to ever perform it but to have some fun! Let me hear any recordings you make. I can be reached very easily on Facebook and love to get feedback from people who buy my arrangements. My Youtube Channel has many of my arrangements for String Quartet, most recorded by Capriccio Quartet, and all but two are available as Sheet Music Plus products. Duration: ca. 6:50Frank Zappa's Brown Shoes Don't Make It is a classic rock song from his 1967 album Absolutely Free. The song is an example of Zappa's trademark satirical lyrics and complex musical composition. The lyrics take aim at materialistic and superficial values in American society, with Zappa's darkly humorous delivery and colorful imagery. Musically, the song combines a range of styles including psychedelic rock, avant-garde jazz, and funk. The instrumentation includes Zappa's trademark electric guitar, as well as vibraphone, organ, and percussion. The song's arrangement is also noteworthy for its use of extended instrumental passages and multiple tempo changes. Brown Shoes Don't Make It is a prime example of Zappa's experimental and iconoclastic approach to rock music, and remains a favorite of fans and critics alike. In Case You Don't Live Forever

Ben Platt's 'In Case You Don't Live Forever' is a beautiful love song - a gorgeous piano+voice ballad describing an eternal love. It works beautifully in this version for string quartet, and would be a great choice for weddings! We Don't Talk About Bruno

Fun to play, in original key, lots of variety for each player with melody swapping around each part. Includes a more idiomatic section for the 'stuttering and stumbling' section, otherwise, very true to the original. Merrily on High is a well-loved Christmas carol with a rich history that connects secular and sacred traditions. Here are the key points to know about this festive song:Origins and CompositionMelody: The tune of Ding Dong! Merrily on High derives from a secular French dance song titled Branle de l’Official, published in 1588 by Thoinot Arbeau, a French cleric and composer. The original piece was part of a collection that included dance instructions and melodies from the Renaissance period.Lyrics: The English lyrics were written by George Ratcliffe Woodward in the early 20th century. An Anglican priest, Woodward published the carol in 1924 as part of The Cambridge Carol Book. His text celebrates the joy of Christmas, echoing the angelic announcement of Jesus' birth as described in Luke 2:13-14.Themes and SignificanceJoyful Celebration: The lyrics express a jubilant celebration of the Christmas season, invoking imagery of bells ringing and angels singing. The refrain Gloria, hosannah in excelsis! reflects the joyous proclamation of peace and goodwill associated with the birth of Christ.Cultural Impact: Over the years, Ding Dong! Merrily on High has become a staple in Christmas caroling and church services, appreciated for its lively and dance-like rhythm. Its playful nature makes it a favorite among singers and listeners, contributing to its enduring popularity during the holiday season.Musical CharacteristicsStructure: The carol features a catchy refrain and a structure that invites participation, making it suitable for group singing. The melody's ascending lines mimic the sound of ringing bells, enhancing its festive spirit.Public Domain Status: As of January 1, 2020, the song entered the public domain in the United States, allowing for broader access and use in various musical arrangements and performances.Ding Dong! Merrily on High stands as a joyful reminder of the Christmas story, blending historical melodies with contemporary celebration, making it a cherished part of holiday traditions.
