Piano Quintet Cello,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.945599 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Tony Matthews. Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. 84 pages. Archway Publications #6354529. Published by Archway Publications (A0.945599). This Fantasia (or Fantasy) for piano, vocal soloists, chorus, and orchestra, Op. 80, was composed in 1808 by a 38 year old Beethoven. The Fantasia was hastily written to serve as the grand finale for a (personal) benefit concert on the 22nd December 1808 which included premiers of his 5th and 6th symphonies, the 4th Piano concerto and the Mass in C. Beethoven took the opportunity to use the forces available to make this comparatively short piece for piano, orchestra, and a choral finale where he, the soloist, could showoff just how good he was.Sadly, this work is seldom performed because who wants to hire a choir for just 2 minutes of music and an orchestra for not that much longer. This quintet version addresses this by allowing a much smaller ensemble to enjoy performing this utterly delightful work. The piano part is basically what Beethoven wrote, however it has been suitably modified in places to allow the piano to fit into the overall ensemble.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.803298 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Paul Taylor. Classical. Score. 3 pages. Paul Taylor #4718073. Published by Paul Taylor (A0.803298). This shortened arrangement of Beethoven's Emperor piano concerto (second movement only) is aimed at the intermediate piano student. The orchestra and the piano solo parts are melded together into a single texture and the keys have been transposed to accommodate the intermediate student. Some notes have been altered to avoid difficult skips and the entire movement has been diluted to forty measures. The intent is to give the interested student a chance to experience this masterpiece in a simplified yet tasteful format. .

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869117 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score. With Adagio … molto cantabile! 3). 18 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #3871. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869117). Program note: I met Mana Tokuno last spring at a concert in Montpelier, Vermont. The Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Victor Rosenbaum, did the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 with Mana as soloist. My work, Seven Steps To Heaven, for string orchestra was also on the program. After the concert we all went to a local restaurant for a bite to eat, and Mana asked me if I would be interested in writing her a piano piece. I said, Sure!!! For years I have been a fan of Glenn Gould’s recordings of the music by J.S. Bach. I am also a fan of the keyboard sonatas of Bach’s son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. To prepare myself for this work for Mana, I delved into the scores and recordings of these two awe-inspiring musicians/composers, in particular the Toccatas and Partitas of J.S. Bach. I wrote the entire work during a three-week stay at the American Academy in Rome, 2009-10. Tokuno Toccata is in five sections. 1) Prelude … Fantasia!!! 2) Adagio … molto cantabile! 3) Allegro molto … 4) Largo … molto cantabile!!! 5) Allegro … Fuga a tre voci. Enjoy!!!Audio link. Piano Solo - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Edward Elgar (1857-1934). Arranged by Edward Elgar. Romantic Period, Funeral, Recital. Score. 8 pages. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha
Edward Elgar composed his Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36, popularly known as the Enigma Variations, between October 1898 and February 1899. It is an orchestral work comprising fourteen variations on an original theme.
Elgar dedicated the work "to my friends pictured within", each variation being a musical sketch of one of his circle of close acquaintances (see musical cryptogram). Those portrayed include Elgar's wife Alice, his friend and publisher Augustus J. Jaeger and Elgar himself.
In naming his theme "Enigma" Elgar posed a challenge which has generated much speculation but has never been conclusively answered. The Enigma is widely believed to involve a hidden melody.
The name of the variation IX (NIMROD) refers to Augustus J. Jaeger, who was employed as music editor by the London publisher Novello & Co. He was a close friend of Elgar's, giving him useful advice but also severe criticism, something Elgar greatly appreciated. Elgar later related how Jaeger had encouraged him as an artist and had stimulated him to continue composing despite setbacks. Nimrod is described in the Old Testament as "a mighty hunter before the Lord", Jäger being German for hunter.
In 1904 Elgar told Dora Penny ("Dorabella") that this variation is not really a portrait, but "the story of something that happened". Once, when Elgar had been very depressed and was about to give it all up and write no more music, Jaeger had visited him and encouraged him to continue composing. He referred to Ludwig van Beethoven, who had a lot of worries, but wrote more and more beautiful music. "And that is what you must do", Jaeger said, and he sang the theme of the second movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 Pathétique. Elgar disclosed to Dora that the opening bars of "Nimrod" were made to suggest that theme. "Can't you hear it at the beginning? Only a hint, not a quotation."
This variation has become popular in its own right and is sometimes used at British funerals, memorial services, and other solemn occasions. It is always played at the Cenotaph, Whitehall in London at the National Service of Remembrance. A version was also played during the Hong Kong handover ceremony in 1997 and at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The “Nimrod” variation was the final orchestral composition (before the national anthem) played by the Greek National Orchestra in a televised June 2013 concert, before the 75-year-old Athenian ensemble was dissolved in the wake of severe government cutbacks.
An adaptation of the piece appears at the ending of the 2017 film Dunkirk as part of the score

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928572 Composed by Beethoven's Wig, Richard Perlmutter. Children,Classical,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 65 pages. Beethoven's Wig, Inc. #6384013. Published by Beethoven's Wig, Inc. (A0.928572). Inspired and wildly imaginative, Beethoven's Wig Sing Along Piano Classics are zany, stick-in-your-head lyrics set to masterpieces by great composers. The lyrics are filled with fact and fancy about the composers and their music opening a door to serious music that's fun. It’s fun to play and sing along! The music for each piano piece is presented as it was originally written by the composer. As a bonus, there is an appendix with pieces transposed into the keys used on Beethoven’s Wig recordings. This allows pianists to play and sing along with the recorded tracks.GREAT FOR PIANO STUDENTS AND TEACHERSPiano teachers often tell their students they should sing the instrumental pieces they play to improve their performance. This helps students to interpret pieces lyrically. The witty and delightful lyrics in this collection are an entertaining means to that end. They are great to sing along with when playing, and are educational and fun!PRAISE FOR BEETHOVEN'S WIGClassical music was never supposed to be this much fun. Was it?- Baltimore Sun Instrumental music tends not to charm children...and a classical piece like Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Not a good bet. But what if that work had words? - New York TimesThe songs are funny... The lyrics are hummable mnemonics, each imparting information about the work or the composer.- Washington PostAn irreverent, witty approach to music appreciation... a laugh out loud that pretty much guarantees listeners will forevermore recognize the classics.-Los Angeles TimesABOUT BEETHOVEN'S WIGBeethoven's Wig is the creation of Richard Perlmutter, who is the lyricist, lead singer and producer of the group's five albums. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano.
