Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1239681 Composed by David M. Stewart. March. 15 pages. DMStewart Music #835072. Published by DMStewart Music (A0.1239681). This piece, The Palatka Port March, is intended to depict a little of the sense of life in the early years of Floridaon the St. John’s River. It was once a target for ships venturing out to find the New World. It has been used to ferrybarges and livestock. Some simply used it for sailing and transportation throughout the years, and some to catch fishto provide for themselves. The life on this river has been diverse, yet fulfilling over the years and will continue to beso in the future. The melodies in this piece were taken from the shape of the St. Johns River from its upper point in Jacksonville, to where our part of the story ends in Palatka. Notice the falling and rising 8th note runs at the beginning, thisrepresents the rise and the fall of the river as it enters Jacksonville from the Atlantic Ocean. The first strain is alinear, yet very regal melody where the heavy beats follow the contour of the river as it runs south. Here you canpicture the ships coming from Europe across the ocean and the excitement they felt when they reached it. Thesecond strain is more playful and represents the life that the river has provided for people for centuries. The Triorepresents the calmness and civility when Palatka was discovered, and the happiness the settlers must have feltknowing they had found their perfect place to call home. The break strain represents the hard work and efforts thatwere put forth to secure the land and build a community. There would have been many triumphs and manysuccesses, but the journey would have not been easy. The final strain is the culmination of the piece. This is thecelebration and the feeling of personal nobility that all of the settlers felt after taking a river and dirt and building acity. I hope you enjoy, The Palatka Port March!

Bassoon & piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.IMS178 Composed by Willard Zirk. Score and Parts. 7 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #IMS178. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.IMS178). 9 x 12 in inches.Prayer originated as an interlude for flute and piano in my choral setting of Psalm 19, Requiem, written in memory ofMarie Mountain Clark. She was a friend and former principal flute in the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (andCongressional Gold Medal recipient for her service as a WWII Women's Air Service Pilot aEUR WASP). Since thepremiere of Requiem in 2009, several of my friends have asked me to transcribe Prayer for their instruments. It hasbeen used for weddings, funerals, offertories, and preludes.Prayer precedes the final verses of Psalm 19 in the Requiem, and it introduces the Psalmist's poignant text on thehuman weakness of willful transgression. Cleanse thou me from secret faultsaEUR|. Let the words of my mouth, and themeditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer (KJV).I think the fact that I had a bad cold while writing this music added to its effectiveness, for I was feeling quite sorry formyself. The melody portrays my prayer rising ever higher, asking forgiveness for my sins. The plagal (Amen) cadenceat the end acknowledges God's gracious forgiveness.Difficulty level: College or advanced high school, requiring full control of intonation and long tones in all ranges.Performance Time: 3' 40

Trumpet & piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.IMS1924 Composed by Willard Zirk. Score and Parts. 7 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #IMS1924. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.IMS1924). 9 x 12 in inches.Prayer originated as an interlude for flute and piano in my choral setting of Psalm 19, Requiem, written in memory of Marie Mountain Clark. She was a friend and former principal flute in the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (and Congressional Gold Medal recipient for her service as a WWII Women's Air Service Pilot - WASP). Since the premiere of Requiem in 2009, several of my friends have asked me to transcribe Prayer for their instruments. It has been used for weddings, funerals, offertories, and preludes. Prayer precedes the final verses of Psalm 19 in the Requiem, and it introduces the Psalmist's poignant text on the human weakness of willful transgression. Cleanse thou me from secret faults.... Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer (KJV). I think the fact that I had a bad cold while writing this music added to its effectiveness, for I was feeling quite sorry for myself. The melody portrays my prayer rising ever higher, asking forgiveness for my sins. The plagal (Amen) cadence at the end acknowledges God's gracious forgiveness. Difficulty level: College or advanced high school, requiring full control of intonation and long tones in all ranges.Performance Time: 3' 40.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.995852 Composed by Andrew Strawn. Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 125 pages. Andrew Strawn #4726553. Published by Andrew Strawn (A0.995852). Dedicated to the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris which caught fire during the writing of this piece. The Great Cathedral is a long-anticipated work. I have had the primary chorale melody for nearly a year prior to the time of publication. So it seems rather overdue to complete it. Being the first large work for orchestra I have composed in a while, it was certainly a challenge. Nevertheless, this piece has come together just as I wanted it to. Written for full orchestra, choir, harp, piano, and organ, The Great Cathedral is a colossal work. It features the principal violinist and travels through a variety of orchestrations. From a French revolution-style march, swelling chorales, fugal expositions, and dissonate sforzandos this piece transforms the primary melody across the score. I am proud to have finally completed this work and I hope you enjoy, The Great Cathedral. In the event a choir is unavailable, choir parts have been cued in the organ. The organ would then play on a reed setting.Includes a legal-sized score and a letter-sized set of parts.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802574 Composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Peet du Toit #5801391. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802574). Samba do Avião (a.k.a. Song of the Jet, translated literally as Airplane Samba) is a Brazilian song composed in 1962 by Antônio Carlos Jobim, who also wrote the original Portuguese lyrics. The English-language lyrics are by Gene Lees.In the biography Antonio Carlos Jobim: An Illuminated Man, Helena Jobim describes how her brother came up with the idea for the song: Tom's many walks from Ipanema to Santos Dumont Airport yielded that ode of beauty... He would head towards the airport, following the water's edge around Guanabara's Bay. The pretext to go there was to buy foreign magazines and newspapers. From Santos Dumont Airport he could observe his passion, the airplane. Yet he still kept some distance from those machines. He was afraid of flying, but he loved their power, splendor, and aerodynamics-man's conquest over machine. In the song, Jobim writes about landing at Galeão in Rio de Janeiro. The airport was renamed in his honor in 1999 and is now called Rio de Janeiro–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport.Jobim wrote Samba do Avião for an Italian film, Copacabana Palace (1962), where it was performed by Jula De Palma and I 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi. The movie was filmed in Rio and features cameo appearances by Jobim, João Gilberto and Os Cariocas. The first performance of the song was by Jobim and Os Cariocas in August 1962 at the Au Bon Gourmet restaurant in Copacabana, Rio, at what music historian Ruy Castro calls the bossa nova show to end all bossa nova shows, as it featured Jobim, João Gilberto, VinÃcius de Moraes and Os Cariocas on stage together for the only time. The first recording of the song was released in October 1962 by Elza Laranjeira. Os Cariocas had a hit with their rendition in 1963.The first English-language version was by Tony Bennett for his 1965 album If I Ruled the World: Songs for the Jet Set.Here is my brass quintet version of the song for your enjoyment.

Voice Duet Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576909 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Blues,Pop. 14 pages. David Warin Solomons #516085. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576909). I am so happy that smoking in enclosed public places is now illegal in the UK and in many other countries, but this song was written in the 1980s when people had to breath the pollution created by inconsiderate smokers, and, of course, there are still countries where this is the case. So I decided to publish the song even though the battle is thankfully won here. The sound sample is my own performance with some additional (un-notated) improvisations on cello and vibraphone. The pdf file contains the score and parts. The music has also been arranged as an instrumental duo called Laid back bounce, also available on this site. I went out this morning along the way to work when without warning I was faced with clouds of murk refrain: Sing Down with the smokers who infect the air with clouds hate their unthinking uncaring unblinking hate the stinking coughing crowds! I went down to the station and was waiting for my train but to my irritation the stinkers were there again. [refrain] Wouldn't it be pleasant to enjoy a drink in a theatre bar discussing the play or wouldn't it be jolly just to sing along with pals in a cozy pub along the way or wouldn't it be nice to go any where and not have to share with every breath some secondhand smoke and firsthand death. [refrain] I was eating my fav'rite curry but the air was getting thick and I felt I had to hurry because the smokers made me feel sick [refrain] It's fine bright hot and sunny and I'd love to have a drink but why spend time and money where the smokers sit and stink? [refrain] Wouldn't it be pleasant just to pass the time at a social do or a meeting hall or wouldn't it be jolly to dance the night away with the one you love at a disco or ball wouldn't it be nice to go any where and not have to share with every breath some secondhand smoke and firsthand death [refrain].

Instrumental version of my improvisation on Louis MacNeiceis Bagpipe MusicThe original poem is: It's no go the merry-go-round, it's no go the rickshaw,All we want is a limousine and a ticket for the peepshow.Their knickers are made of crêpe-de-chine, their shoes are made of python,Their halls are lined with tiger rugs and their walls with heads of bison.John MacDonald found a corpse, put it under the sofa,Waited till it came to life and hit it with a poker,Sold its eyes for souvenirs, sold its blood for whiskey,Kept its bones for dumb-bells to use when he was fifty. It's no go the Yogi-Man, it's no go Blavatsky,All we want is a bank balance and a bit of skirt in a taxi.Annie MacDougall went to milk, caught her foot in the heather,Woke to hear a dance record playing of Old Vienna. It's no go your maidenheads, it's no go your culture,All we want is a Dunlop tyre and the devil mend the puncture. The Laird o' Phelps spent Hogmanay declaring he was sober,Counted his feet to prove the fact and found he had one foot over.Mrs Carmichael had her fifth, looked at the job with repulsion,Said to the midwife 'Take it away; I'm through with overproduction'.It's no go the gossip column, it's no go the Ceilidh,All we want is a mother's help and a sugar-stick for the baby.Willie Murray cut his thumb, couldn't count the damage,Took the hide of an Ayrshire cow and used it for a bandage. His brother caught three hundred cran when the seas were lavish,Threw the bleeders back in the sea and went upon the parish. It's no go the Herring Board, it's no go the Bible,All we want is a packet of fags when our hands are idle. It's no go the picture palace, it's no go the stadium,It's no go the country cot with a pot of pink geraniums,It's no go the Government grants, it's no go the elections,Sit on your arse for fifty years and hang your hat on a pension. It's no go my honey love, it's no go my poppet;Work your hands from day to day, the winds will blow the profit. The glass is falling hour by hour, the glass will fall for ever,But if you break the bloody glass you won't hold up the weather.

Gareth Jones, University of Calgary, 28 Janaury, 2011Première of the version for violin and 17 instruments: Frédéric Moisan, violin Orchestre 21 cond. Paolo Bellomio, Unveristy of Montreal, Canada, 2 March 2012Preface:In the early 1890s, Debussy composed the opening of a lyrical piece in E major for violin and piano, perhaps as a shorter companion piece for the violin Nocturne he was planning for the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. After Debussy’s death in 1918, his second wife Emma often gave away sketch pages to performers or composers as memorials to her beloved husband , and this particular page was given to the Cuban born pianist and composer Joaquin Nin (1879-1949). It came up for sale in the catalogue of the British antiquarian dealer Lisa Cox in 2010 and although it might possibly be an early song for contralto and piano, the more dynamic idea in bar 12 strongly suggests the violin, especially as it begins on an open D string. Moreover, there is no text and in pieces of this length, Debussy usually wrote at least one word in, if only to remind himself where he had got to in any song. So my starting point was a complete 12-bar melody gently undulating in the violin’s lowest register over a sensual accompaniment, rising to a climax in bar 12 and giving me a contrasting idea that I could use as a link between sections and in the cadenza. As the B section (bars 14-26) derives directly from Debussy’s opening theme by metamorphosis, my own additions were restricted to the central section (bars 27-57) - comprising a new scherzando idea (C) and the more lyrical D (bars 36-46). C returns at bar 47, followed by the opening sections in reverse order, so that the Sérénade begins and ends with Debussy’s material and is cast in arch form (ABCDCBA). Robert OrledgeBrighton, 19 June 2019Robert Orledge was born in Bath in 1948 and educated at Clare College, Cambridge, where he gained his doctorate for his study of the composer Charles Kœchlin in 1973. Between 1971 and 1991 He rose from Lecturer to Professor in the Music Department of the University of Liverpool, publishing books on Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Charles Kœchlin and Erik Satie, as well as numerous articles, editions and reviews. As a historical musicologist, Professor Orledge specialized in the way composers composed, ,and since taking early retirement in 2004, he has concentrated on completing and orchestrating Debussy’s unfinished works, and especially his theatre projects. His completion of Debussy’s opera The Fall of the House of Usher (1908-17) was successfully premiered at the Bregenz Opera Festival in Austria in August 2006 and has since been performed in America, Portugal Germany and Holland, as well as being broadcast throughout Europe. A DVD of the Bregenz premier is available on Capriccio 93517, produced by Phylida Lloyd and conducted by Lawrence Foster. His completion of the Chinese ballet No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence (1914) was also premiered in 2006 in Los Angeles and ot.

Published by Gianmaria Griglio (A0.927852). Gioseffo Guami (1542–1611) was an Italian composer, organist, violinist and singer of the late Renaissance Venetian School. He was a prolific composer of madrigals and instrumental music, and was renowned as one of the finest organists in Italy in the late 16th century; he was also the principal teacher of Adriano Banchieri. Not much of his music has survived but the little we have shows the level of refinement this composer from Lucca had reached. I've arranged here one of his canzonette (little songs) for string orchestra. Enjoy and don't forget to leave a comment :)

From Robert Orledge's notes:
My interest in the wonderful music of Claude Debussy began in the 1980s when I researched and published a book with Cambridge University Press entitled Debussy and the Theatre. During the course of my studies in Paris, I was amazed to discover that Debussy planned over 50 theatrical works but only finished two of these entirely by himself (the opera Pelléas et Mélisande in 1893–1902 and the ballet Jeux for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1912–13). Of the rest, many were never started musically (like Siddartha and Orphée-roi with the Oriental scholar Victor Segalen, 1907); some had a few tantalising sketches (like the Edgar Allan Poe opera Le Diable dans le beffroi, 1902–03); some were half-finished (like his other Poe opera La Chute de la Maison Usher, 1908–17); while others were musically complete but had their orchestrations completed by other composers (like Khamma, by Charles Koechlin, 1912–13; or Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien and La Boîte à joujoux by his ‘angel of corrections’ [‘l’ange des Corrections’] André Caplet in 1911 and 1919 respectively).
For it has to be admitted that what some scholars call Debussy’s ‘compulsive achievement’ could equally well be viewed as laziness, especially as far as the minute detail required for calligraphing his orchestral scores was concerned. It was as if creating the music itself was of greater importance than controlling its final sound, even if Debussy was an imaginative orchestrator when he found the time and energy to do it. It also seems true that Debussy also preferred inventing ideas to turning them into complete pieces. However, despite the lack of detail in many of his sketches (missing clefs, key signatures, dynamics, phrasing, etc.) the notes themselves are surprisingly accurate, whether or not they can be compared with a later draft. Thus, a large number of sketches exist for his Chinese ballet No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence and it is not too difficult to see which parts of Georges de Feure’s 1913 scenario (see below) inspired which ideas. But Debussy hardly made any attempt to join them together after the first few bars.
It was usually up to his publisher, Jacques Durand, to find solutions when Debussy risked a breach of contract. Debussy was supposed to supervise the orchestrations completed by others, but this supervision was usually very light and restricted to quiet, sensitive moments in which problems were easier to spot. Far from jealously guarding every one of his created notes, as Ravel did, Debussy once even went as far as to ask Koechlin to ‘write a ballet for him that he would sign’ on 26 March 1914 when he was hard-pressed to fulfil his lucrative contract for No-ja-li with André Charlot at the Alhambra Theatre in London. In the end, Debussy (through Durand) sent Charlot the symphonic suite Printemps instead, whose orchestration had been completed by Henri Busser in the Spring of 1912.
So, when I was offered early retirement as Professor of Music at Liverpool University in 2004, I seized the opportunity it would give me to spend time trying to reconstruct some of Debussy’s lost potential masterpieces from his existing sketches and drafts—then orchestrating them in Debussy’s style when this was appropriate. I had begun this mission in 2001 with the most promising project, the missing parts of Scene 2 of La Chute de la Maison Usher and the sheer joy it gave me at every stage persuaded me to tackle other projects, especially when Debussy experts were unable to identify exactly where I took over from Debussy (and vice versa) in Usher.
