Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.925177 By Michael Jackson. By John Bettis and Steve Porcaro. Arranged by Brian Johns. Pop. Guitar Tab. 6 pages. Brian J Johns #4729477. Published by Brian J Johns (A0.925177). Here’s an arrangement for advanced solo fingerstyle guitar of Michael Jackson’s Human Nature. Tablature and left and right hand fingerings are included. One particular oddity is that the 6th string has to be tuned down to a low C. This makes the bass line possible given the range of the overall instrumentation and is quite the important feature in dance/pop music. Otherwise, just a mix of familiar chord activity, bass sustain – leaving fingers down when possible, accentuated melody tones and trying to keep the rhythm steady.

Baritone voice and piano - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8826-3E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. African American Heritage. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8826-3E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8826-3E). English.I’ve Known Rivers is a multi-movement work, comprised of songs based on four different poems by Langston Hughes (1902–1967). Though he lived much of his life in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, Hughes was born in Missouri and raised in Kansas, Illinois, and Ohio. At age seventeen, he traveled to Mexico to live with his estranged father. As he crossed the Mississippi River, he was inspired to write The Negro Speaks of Rivers, which begins “I’ve known rivers….,†and is the text for the first movement, “My Soul Has Grown Deep.†It reflects upon rivers of historic and geographical importance—the Euphrates, Congo, Nile, and Mississippi. As the rivers have endured over time, so has the human soul. The waters—the blood—runs deep.In contrast to the universal message of the first song, “Troubled Water,†which uses the poetry of the same title, is contemporary and personal. Water becomes an image of the unsettled and uncertain nature of love. The journey of love is a journey of troubled water. There is no resolution.Undaunted by the elusive nature of love, the poet, heard via the chorus, turns flippant, displaying a persevering and humorous outlook in “Jump Right In!†(to the river) from Hughes’ poem Life is Fine. Romantic misadventures will not conquer the spirit. “I could’ve died for love, but for livin’ I was born.â€â€œIn time of silver rain,†once more using the poem of the same title, is a song of healing. With the regeneration of spring, the poet marvels at the wonder of life.Though intended to be performed as the complete multi-movement work I’ve Known Rivers, each song may be performed separately. Duration: 12:00.Contents:My Soul has Grown DeepTroubled WaterJump Right In!In Time of Silver Rain.

Small Ensemble Piano,Violin,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.787341 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. Concert,Contemporary,Graduation,Standards. Score and parts. 14 pages. Burke & Bagley #2807631. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787341). United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan was awarded the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. The text for this piece is adapted from his Nobel Lecture given on December 10, 2001. The lecture text is Copyright © 2001 by The Nobel Foundation, Stockholm, 2001, and is used by permission. This work was originally written for unaccompanied mixed choir. It was adapted for solo voice with optional violin for Michael Oriatti.A Girl Born in Afghanistan Today, in Afghanistan, a girl will be born. Her mother will hold her and feed her, comfort her and care for her – just as any mother would anywhere in the world. In these basic acts of human nature, humanity knows no divisions. We must focus on improving the conditions of men and women. We must begin with the young Afghan girl. Saving that one life is to save humanity itself. In this new century, we must start from understanding Peace must be made real and tangible in the daily lives of every man and woman. The notion that what is ours must conflict with what is theirs is both false and dangerous. It has resulted in endless enmity and conflict. It has led men to commit great crimes in the name of a higher power. It need not be so. We can love what we are, without hating what we are not, without hating who we are not. The girl born in Afghanistan today is just one test of our humanity – But it is the only test that matters.

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841250 Composed by Chris Gordon. Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Cool Wind Music Digital #3029087. Published by Cool Wind Music Digital (A0.841250). A setting of a very powerful poem by English poet, Ted Hughes, about the onset of autumn in an English (Yorkshire) garden and the surrounding countryside. It is full of pathos and passion, harmony and dissonance, chaos and peace - just like English weather! This is a very individual and innovative choral setting of Hughes' poem which is, itself, rich in 'meaty' metaphor and colour - and the composer is a vegetarian! It evokes a savage Nature within a savage landscape where humans and animals compete for space and for food. It is October, the fields and woods and gardens of rural Yorkshire are readying themselves for the cold and desolation (and despair) of winter which isn't far away in time. 'A glass, half-filled with wine, left out(side) To the dark heaven all night, by dawn Has dreamed a premonition of ice across its eye as if the ice-age had begun its heave.' That is only two and a half stanzas but you see from these lines that there are veiled threats of (Nature's) violence in the heavy tread of the poet's slowly-building angst over what is happening in the surrounding countryside - and his fear grows, and his awe grows, with every line. There is even fear underlining the very last line: 'And now it is about to start.' Winter is creeping closer and closer towards the house and it will not be pleasant to experience!I have tried to instil a little of this in the music which keeps skidding from consonance to dissonance and back to consonance. Sometimes the dissonance piles up, like snow driven by the wind piles up into deep banks; sometimes the music relaxes into stillness and calm (painted in tonal music) like a crisp, mild late autumn or early winter's day when the sun warms the landscape and life appears bearable, tolerable. I hope this adds to the song's 'charm'. It wasn't easy to write: sometimes the right music was elusive. The music ends with the word 'October' repeated three times, with voices overlapping in a little canon. This conjures up the wistful feelings of the poet as he looks out onto a peaceful scene, soon to be filled with all manner of 'natural violence', while his inner peace will soon be shattered by the mayhem about to be unleashed around him.Setting Ted Hughes is no easy task. It is for choirs and choirmasters to judge if I have succeeded in conveying the 'sense and sensibility' of a classic 20th century English poem. The price is for one copy: please purchase a sufficient number of scores if you intend to perform this work. SMP Press offers discounts for multiple-copy purchases.

Contralto voice and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8769-2E Composed by Juliana Hall. 7 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8769-2E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8769-2E). English.Juliana Hall wrote her song cycle Of That So Sweet Imprisonment for mezzo soprano Stephanie Blythe, for whom Hall had expressed a desire to write a piece. Blythe accepted Hall's proposal, and her request was that Hall write a song cycle for contralto voice. In recounting her motivation for writing this piece, Hall - in a discussion with Blythe at the Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar (where Hall was the Guest Composer in 2018) - said You know what I think is really so wonderful is how you [Blythe] communicate, from here to there, right to the audience...it just speaks, the words, the text, come right...right to the heart of each person...I was thinking, what a wonderful person, what a wonderful voice...to be able to communicate...I've just got the most perfect singer to take these songs, this wonderful subject of love, and present it to the worldThe seven poems Hall set in Of That So Sweet Imprisonment were chosen from James Joyce's early book of poems, Chamber Music (Elkin Mathews, London) published in 1907. The poems are arranged in a narrative arc that takes the listener from the presence of love in nature (Strings in the Earth and Air), to the human feeling of emptiness when love is not present (Winds of May), to a description exulting in the joys of human love (Of That So Sweet Imprisonment), to expression of human love such as kissing (In the Dark Pine-Wood), to love's tranformation of a girl into a woman through love making (Bid Adieu), to the feelings of contentment in the early morning after making love (At That Hour When All Things Have Repose), and finally a call for the lovers to go to a special place where they may remain together in love (O Cool is the Valley).Of That So Sweet Imprisonment will be premiered on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City, by Ms. Blythe and pianist Alan Smith, on the third concert of the Sparks & Wiry Cries' NYC songSLAM Festival, entitled Expressions of Love: Stephanie Blythe and Friends.Contents:I. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8826-1E). Concert Band - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998361 Composed by Aaron Fonzi. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 101 pages. Aaron Fonzi #6089967. Published by Aaron Fonzi (A0.998361). Composed in honor of women's history month, First Symphony for Beginning Band is a unique piece that depicts four important women throughout our history. Movement 1 depicts the harrowing tale of Sojourner Truth's escape from slavery. She went on to become one of the most influential abolitionists in history- both an icon for racial justice and women's rights. The second movement depicts the innocence of a young Malala, who stood up against the Taliban's exclusion of women's rights to education. At the age of 15, she was shot in the head three times on a school bus as she was on her way home. Miraculously, she survived and went on to win a Nobel Peace Prize (she is the youngest person to ever earn this prestigious award. Still alive today, Malala is currently studying at Oxford and runs the Malala Fund, which advocates for quality education for all girls. Movement 3 captures the energy, cunning and adventurous nature of Amelia Earhart. She was the first woman to fly the Atlantic, and her disappearance is one of the greatest mysteries of our time. Rehearsal D represents her flight over the open seas and Rehearsal E depicts the unresolved tragedy of her disappearance. Finally, the 4th movement honors the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two separate sciences, Marie Curie. Her scientific, methodical approach to exploration and discovery are depicted here via the fragmented eighth note motifs and methodical percussion writing. I hope your students will enjoy the catchy hooks and melodies, and I hope that this piece can serve as a valuable reminder of the infinite capacity of the human spirit. Most importantly, may we continue to strive to make this world a better place for all! Onward, Aaron Fonzi.

Published by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) (A0.1215070). Help fight the extinction crisis! Here's an important work for our times that's perfect for your nature/environmental program. It's an SATB (some divisi) a cappella choral piece with option soundscape, but stands alone with the singers making some nature sounds.Extinction by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP)Soundscapes arranged by Seylon Stills in the audio sampleText : An Extinction by Kim Stafford (https://www.kimstaffordpoet.com) The poem “An Extinction†© 2022 Kim Stafford is unpublished and used with permission. An Extinction by Kim Stafford Not just the creature gone, not just the tattered feathers, dry leaf pressed thin. Not just the rendering from memory, not just the lost-list growing longer, a shape and hue from the field guide fled, not just a name that meant a life, a syllable that once was teeming glory, one bright flurry shimmering the sun. No. No. No. It’s one name gone from our happiness, one breath lost from our respiration, one thread frayed from our salvation, one plank gone from the ark that carried us. Be the songbird now and testify. Be the butterfly hinge of gold. Be the one with open hands these wonders to behold. Don’t let them fly. Be the songbird now and testify. Program note — Commissioned by Inversion Ensemble for its February 2023 Planet Home concert, Extinction sets the poem “An Extinction†(2022) by Kim Stafford for SATB mixed chorus. The three stanzas of the poem get distinct musical treatment: the first some text-painting and dissonance, the second rhythmic parts underpinning canonic melodic lines, the third a rich chorale. During my work on this piece, I happened to be traveling by train. The pitches of the train whistle snuck their way into the score as a dissonant chord. A nature soundscape may sometimes accompany this piece, although the tongue click sounds create a bit of their own aural ecosystem. Drawing attention to the unfolding catastrophe of mass extinction, Extinction hopes to inspire humans to action to prevent further loss of species biodiversity.

But it is also a reminder of the increasingly apparent threats and challenges posed by climate change. The piece consists of three different musical and lyrical themes: Theme no. 1 is Harlig ar jorden, a beloved hymn sung in Scandinavia. The second theme consists of quotes from an acclaimed 1854 speech made by Chief Seattle to Governor Isaac Ingalls Stevens that I set to music, a compelling plea to respect the rights of indigenous peoples and a well-formulated reminder that human beings are a part of nature, they are not its masters. The third theme is a fragment from a Swedish funeral prayer. - Sofia Soderberg There is also a version for male voice choir.

Duration: 3:23, Score: 7 pages, 61 measures, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Meter: common time, Tempo: quarter note = 124. Excellent choice for recitals, church or combo performance.
"When released as a single in 1973, it reached no. 3 in the UK and stayed on the chart for thirteen weeks. The song re-entered the UK charts at no. 55 over 30 years later, largely because of its use in the original British television series Life on Mars.[6] In June 2015, Neil McCormick of The Daily Telegraph ranked it as no. 1 in his "100 Greatest Songs of All Time" list,[7] describing it thus:
Gloriously strange sci-fi anthem. A stirring, yearning melody combines with vivid, poetic imagery to accomplish a trick very particular to the art of the song: to be at once completely impenetrable and yet resonant with personal meaning. You want to raise your voice and sing along, yet Bowie’s abstract cut-up lyrics force you to invest the song with something of yourself just to make sense of the experience, and then carries you away to a place resonant with intense, individual emotion. The magic and mystery of music and lyrics. It is something to behold.[7]
In a 2012 poll, "Life on Mars?" was voted Bowie's best song. Digital Spy, who conducted the poll, stated it has "perhaps become David's signature song – filled with surreal cut-up lyrics inspired by William Burroughs, it married vivid imagery with a tender, heartbreaking melody".[8]
The song has appeared in several television series. The BBC television drama Life on Mars used both the name and the song itself as its basis. The song was used extensively throughout the programme and its spin-off, Ashes to Ashes. The song was used also in the American version of Life on Mars. In the episode "The Waters of Mars", of the British television show Doctor Who, takes place in the first human base on Mars, named "Bowie Base One".
Jessica Lange sang a rendition with a deep German accent on the fourth-season premiere of the FX television program American Horror Story: Freak Show.[10] Playing a character whose surname is Mars, Lange wears an ice-blue trouser suit and heavy matching eye shadow in her performance, echoing the Bowie video.[10] Both the song and the performance are anachronistic, given that the season takes place in 1952, nearly 20 years before Bowie released the song. She performs the song again in the episode "Pink Cupcakes", and an instrumental version is played at the end of the season finale, "Curtain Call", where Mars is getting ready to sing.
The song has also appeared in several film soundtracks. The original soundtrack of Lars von Trier's 1996 movie Breaking the Waves features "Life on Mars?" during the epilogue, although the song was replaced by Elton John's "Your Song" on the international DVD release for copyright reasons.[11] "Life on Mars?" is included on the soundtrack to the 2004 film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, starring Bill Murray as Steve Zissou.[12] The song is played as Murray walks stoned to the bow of his boat in solitude as a party continues below deck. "Life on Mars?" is included in the 2005 film Loverboy, first being played on the radio during a conversation between the 10-year-old Emily and Mrs. Harker, and later being sung a cappella by 10-year-old Emily.[12] "Life on Mars?" is included on the soundtrack to the 2006 film Factory Girl.[12] "Life on Mars?" is used in the 2012 British film Hunky Dory, sung by the character Davey (Aneurin Barnard).
Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong has said that he would like either "Life on Mars?" or "Take This Job and Shove It" by Johnny Paycheck played at his funeral.[13]"-Wikipedia
