Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1404381 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Standards. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #987456. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1404381). The historical context of Bach's BWV 812 French Suite No. 1 is rooted in its composition during a period of prolific creativity in Bach's life, around 1722-1725. These suites, including the French Suite No. 1, were crafted as part of a collection intended for teaching purposes within Bach's private circle, particularly to enhance the keyboard skills of his second wife, Anna Magdalena. The French Suites were written when Bach was newly married to Anna Magdalena, following the passing of his first wife, Maria Barbara. These suites were considered a wedding gift for Anna Magdalena. They were part of Bach's efforts to provide musical education to his wife and children from previous marriages. The suites blend French and German styles, featuring a series of dances in the same key, such as allemande, courante, sarabande, minuets, and gigue. Despite being labeled as French suites, Bach did not give them this title himself. The French Suites are known for their moderate difficulty level compared to Bach's other keyboard works, such as the English Suites.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1406650 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 59 pages. Jmsgu3 #989408. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1406650). The importance of Bach's French Suites lies in their unique blend of French and Italian styles despite the misleading title. These suites, composed between 1722 and 1725 for the clavier, showcase Bach's mastery in stylizing traditional dances like allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, and gigues. While named French Suites by later sources like Johann Nikolaus Forkel, they follow Italian conventions with some French influences. The suites offer a rich musical experience, bridging different European styles and serving as valuable teaching pieces. Despite the misleading title, Bach's French Suites are a testament to his compositional genius and continue to be cherished by musicians and audiences alike. The history behind Bach's French Suites is intertwined with a bittersweet period in Bach's life. In May 1720, Bach embarked on a trip, leaving his wife, Maria Barbara, and four children. Tragically, upon his return, he discovered that Maria Barbara had passed away. This loss led to a significant change in Bach's personal life as he became a single father mourning his wife. Despite this tragedy, Bach found love again with Anna Magdalena Wülcken, whom he married. As a gesture of affection and to cultivate her musical skills, Bach composed music for Anna Magdalena, including what would later become the French Suites. These suites were likely performed at court and reflected the couple's intimate musical companionship. The French Suites were not published during Bach's lifetime, possibly because he did not deem it challenging enough. Today, these suites offer an accessible path to Bach's music and are cherished for their stylized dance movements inspired by French and Italian forms.

B-Flat Bass Clarinet,B-Flat Clarinet,Bassoon,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1126331 Composed by Manuel de Falla. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical. 139 pages. Philip Le Bas #727035. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1126331). Manuel De Falla’s two suites of dances from the ballet “The Three-Cornered Hat†(El sombrero de tres picos) contain the most quintessentially Spanish of all orchestral dances ever written, demanding a large orchestra (and singer.) Philip Le Bas has here arranged a short “mini-suite†of four movements for wind sextet: flute, oboe/cor anglais. clarinet, bass clarinet, french horn, and bassoon. All the major characters of the ballet are represented in the movements chosen, including the pompous, disreputable, and rather tipsy town mayor (played by the bassoon briefly in the third movement), the neighbours (who ultimately see justice done, tossing the mayor up and down on a blanket), and of course the dashing Miller and his electrifying wife! 1. Neighbours' Dance (Seguidillas) 2. Miller’s Dance (Farruca) 3. Afternoon (La Tarde) 4. Dance of the Miller’s Wife (Fandango).

This marvelous arrangement of the Russian Dance from Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's extremely popular, The Nutcracker Suite, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals but would be most appropriate during the Holiday season. This selection has been arranged to keep all of the intensity and excitement of the original composition and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (15 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act ballet with a score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960's and is performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in North America. Tchaikovsky's score has become one of his most famous compositions. Some critics have called it astonishingly rich in detailed inspiration and from beginning to end, beautiful, melodious, original and characteristic. The ballet's first complete performance outside Russia took place in England in 1934. The first complete United States performance was on December 24, 1944, by the San Francisco Ballet. It was such an enormous success that the San Francisco Ballet has presented The Nutcracker every Christmas Eve and throughout the winter season, debuting new productions in 1944, 1954, 1967 and 2004. In Salt Lake City, it has been performed every year since 1963. The New York City Ballet gave its first annual performance in 1954. In addition to annual live stagings of the work, many productions have also been televised or released on home video. The Nutcracker continues to be one of Tchaikovsky's most popular compositions and contains some of his most memorable works. Tchaikovsky made a selection of eight of the numbers from the ballet before the ballet's December 1892 premiere, forming The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a, and is intended for concert performance. The suite was first performed, under the composer's direction, on March 19, 1892. The suite became instantly popular with almost every number encored at its premiere.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could also have the opportunity to play some of these wonderful compositions, originally scored for a full orchestra, and has arranged two of the selections, the popular March and the Russian Dance, one of the character dances, based on the Russian and Ukrainian folk dance, Trepak, for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. So, in addition to this version of the Russian Dance, for a French Horn Octet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection for various Quintets and Octets and are readily available. If you should decide to purchase this arrangement of the Russian Dance, I would highly encourage you to also consider purchasing the arrangement of the March as well. Scheduling the March followed by the Russian Dance would be a very satisfying addition to any concert or recital. Please take the time to look for other versions of these compositions. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as there are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of the Russian Dance from Tchaikovsky's marvelous holiday favorite, The Nutcracker Suite, will continue to entertain both performers and aud.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.742377 Composed by J. Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Arte Nova Music Lab. Baroque,Concert,Standards. Score and parts. 74 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #2988437. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742377). The Orchestral Suite in G minor, BWV 1070 is a work by an unknown composer. It is part of the Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis catalogue (BWV catalogue) of the works of J. S. Bach, and sometimes called the Orchestral Suite No. 5, but was almost certainly not composed by him. It is more likely that the composer was W. F. Bach. It is a French suite with an overture and several dances, which has a similar structure with the 4 orchestral suites by J. S. Bach. But one point making it different from the 4 orchestral suites by J. S. Bach is that it has one movement not in the home key (which is the Aria in E-flat major).
