It is perfect as an opener or to create variety during a concert.Deze nobele concertmars werd geschreven in opdracht van de Duitse Musikverein Heek, ter gelegenheid van het 125-jarig bestaan van deze vereniging in 2017. De première vond onder leiding van de componist op 2 september plaats in de gemeente Heek. Donar is de dondergod uit de Germaanse mythologie en er is een specifieke reden voor de keuze van deze naam: in de regio rond Heek is de ‘Donderberg’ een begrip, zodat deze titel zeer toepasselijk is. Het lage register komt een paar keer duidelijk op de voorgrond om de donder en bliksem weer te geven. Het werk begint echter met een plechtstatige ‘entree’ een godheid waardig! De triomelodie daarentegen is naar de loffelijkegewoonte van Jan Van der Roost zangerig en melodieus. Kortom: dit is een mars die diverse muzikale aspecten bevat en etaleert. ...Then Thy Words Will Take Wing... is a four movement composition based upon drawings made by Russian painter Zinovii Tolkatchev (1903-1970), who served as official artist during the liberation of concentration camps in Auschwitz. After the war, Tolkatchev’s works were published and now tour the world as a travelling exhibition. La musica eurocolta ha adottato, a causa della notazione e nel corso del tempo, una gran serie di convenzioni estetiche ed esecutive che riesce difficile abbandonare nel momento del confronto con i documenti musicali e le notazioni più antiche; non per nulla la trascrizione in notazione moderna ha lo scopo di fornire, ai musicisti interessati alle prassi storiche, spartiti di più facile disponibilità e lettura. Tale passaggio continua però a rappresentare un problema interpretativo cruciale, anche in considerazione del fatto che le notazioni antiche lasciavano alla tradizione orale una quantità di elementi di antica origine, sui quali è necessario porre grande attenzione per non incorrere in gravi errori di metodo. Questo breve testo ha lo scopo di facilitare coloro che intraprendono il proprio viaggio in questo cosmo musicale, che più di altri richiede prudente immaginazione per essere esplorato. L’interpretazione della musica antica verte infatti necessariamente sul limite tra vero e falso; una composizione musicale, antica, anonima, ma autentica, merita lo stesso rispetto che oggi viene riservato ai compositori riconosciuti e celebrati e non può essere confusa con tutto ciò che bisogna avere il coraggio di definire storicamente falso o esteticamente incongruo.
