Zoltà ƒÂ¡n Kodály s unaccompanied mixed choruses first appeared in print in 1943 as a collected volume published by the association Magyar Kórus. This collection contained twenty-five works. In 1951, the volume was released again in the author s edition, being expanded with eight new compositions, but without Els áldozás (First Communion). Reprint editions of this collection had been distributed by Editio Musica Budapest until 1972, when a commemorative extended edition of the mixed choruses was issued, edited by Lajos Bárdos. Until now, reprints of this collection with forty-five compositions have been circulated. Péter Erdei carefully compared the printed edition with themanuscripts of the works preserved at the Kodály Archives. As a result of his work, in 2011 we emended a number of misprints, including those that had been inherited since the earliest print. Seventy-five years after the first release, the time has come for Kodály s collected choral works for mixed voices to appear in a completely new, expanded edition. Our collection contains six compositions that were not included in earlier editions: Jövel, Szentlélek eristen (Come, Holy Spirit), Miatyánk (The Lord s Prayer), Miserere, Salló Pista, Semmit ne bánkódjál (Do Not Grieve), ejesztend t köszönt (A Christmas Carol). In addition, two versions - both equally authentic - are published of the work known under the title of Naphimnusz (Canticle of the Sun), due to earlier editions the new release comes with lyrics in Hebrew and English (Adoration), as well as Dénes Szed s Hungarian translation (Napének [Hymn of the Sun]). This is the most complete and most authentic edition of Kodály s mixed choruses to date it is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions, and it contains new easily-legible music scores and an informative epilogue. Diese Ausgabe entstand unter der Mitwirkung von Lajos Bárdos.

* Also known as Four Grandmother Songs and Old Granny Tales, this work was composed in New York in 1918 at the beginning of the composer's self-imposed exile from Russia after its Revolution. * These short pieces were immediately successful and were performed worldwide. * In the epigraph to this work Prokofiev wrote, Some recollections had become half erased from her memory; others will never be erased. * Mr. Sauer once again, has produced a magnificent work for Trombone & Piano. * This work with its great character is a joy to perform, about 8 - 9 minutes in length for moderately advanced performers. .

The composer was drawn to the beautiful stillness and sadness of the poem by Christina Rossetti, which transcend its rigid sonnet structure, and allude via the epigraph to the mysterious Willow-Wood cycle by Christina's brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The music suggests a division of the poem into three stanzas, alternating with tranquil interludes (using the opening melody) representing the 'willow-wood' of the title, so that the listener is constantly reminded of the gentle surroundings. As the intensity of the text increases, so does the astringency of dissonance in the verses, reaching its apogee just before consonance breaks through at the crucial phrase 'one moment joined'. The simplicity of the vocal writing conveys the serenity of the setting, while simultaneously suggesting the austere melancholy of the lovers. An Echo from Willow-Wood was the winner of the Stainer & Bell Award for Choral Composition 2015.

Pranaya ma is a musical meditation for both orchestra and audience, intended for the opening of a concert program. The three pitches that are the basis of the entire work were first heard by me as music floating in the ether. These pitches are passed from one instrument to another in the orchestra and transposed. Their rhythm is based solely on the timing of the breath of each individual player. The first two notes are played as the string players and percussionists exhale, while the third note is played on the inhale. Wind and brass players divide the three notes between each pair, one player taking the first two notes and then cuing the other player for the third note, and so on in a cycle. The overall result might sound like a community of living, breathing organisms. It may require some patience to get used to the aural subtleties and nuance of detail over time, just like being in a very dark room and waiting for your eyes to adjust to see what is there. These words of the early French philosopher, Nicolas Malebranche supply an epigraph for the piece: Attention is the natural prayer of the soul. Pranayama was completed in 2015 and is an expansion of one of the movements of an earlier work, Twilight Streams for cello and guitar. It is dedicated to Paul Haas, who imaginatively suggested the idea of rewriting if for orchestra and who premiered the work with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas.
