This work is a close-up of the encounters and relationships of trust between people, following the idea that friendship lasts forever.” After the passing of Satoshi Yagisawa’s close friend and work partner, Tsutomu Murata, a designer of Neo Create in August 2020, the composer began work on this piece. Murata performed music for audiences primarily as a leader and conductor of Kurume City Brass, a group which is active in Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan. Eternal Frienship depicts a five-minute chorale which explores “how music can convey that a close friend is indispensable to you, more broadly, everyone to someone,” much like how Murata conveyed the appeal of music to his audiences. Under the direction of the composer himself, the work had its world premiere and was recorded with the Kobe College Wind Orchestra.

Eternal Summer is like a breath of fresh air in the warm heat of summer. It is a tuneful composition from composer Peter Terry that exhibits all of the elements he has already become known for - fresh harmonic perspectives, driving rhythms, and wonderful scoring.
Eternal Summer captures the essence of the early summertime, when all things seem possible and the days are long and filled with promise. This fanfare-like work gives a young orchestra the chance to play strong fanfare figures with accented and staccato articulations as well as longer lyrical lines, most noticeably from mm. 23-34. Create a strong contrast between these articulated fanfares and the legato slurred passages and pay particular attention to the dynamics throughout the piece. Make sure to make the section from m. 54 to the end large and dramatic, but save enough energy to finish with a real fortissimo with a good, full tone from m. 62 on.I enjoyed writing this piece and hope your students will enjoy playing these contrasting styles and that you will find the piece beneficial in teaching important musical concepts.—Peter TerryBluffton, Ohio 2016.

Legendary composer W. Francis McBeth once said, If Claude Smith only wrote the fanfare to Eternal Father, he would still be a legend. Smith takes the Navy’s hymn as the basis for his fanfare. This famous hymn tune, normally in the major key, has now been placed in the minor key then transitions to Allegro Vivace. The hymn tune is put through its paces including several variations and two fugatos (one for the woodwinds and one for brass). A short transition,(including the famous 7/8 measure!) to the now well-known setting for French horn quartet, gives us an emotional rendition of the original hymn tune now in the major key. The full band plays the hymn, and a timpani roll takes us back to the original fanfare now in C major. A classic of literature and a composition which will provide a meaningful experience for musician and audience member alike.
