Brah ms' 21 Hungarian Dances were completed in 1869 and sent to his publisher without opus numbers. Only three of the works are original compositions. The music mostly of one to five minutes in length was Brahm's biggest seller, originally for solo Piano, but once they were arranged for piano four hands, they exploded in popularity.Jame s Miller has beautifully arranged five of them (1, 5, 7,8 and 9) for Trombone with Piano accompaniment and are appropriate very advanced performers. The sound clips are of Mr. Miller from his solo CD album, Coast to Coast, featured on CD Baby.

This is the most popular of the 21 Hungarian Dances which Brahms completed in 1869. Originally written for piano four-hands, this dance was based on the Csardas by Béla Kéler which Brahms mistakenly thought was a traditional folksong. The arrangement is by Nestor Janssens, former solo clarinettist of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra.

Bartók's Mikrokosmos has been one of the milestones in pedagogical piano repertoire for 80 years - and yet it is also far more than a classical piano primer. These 153 piano pieces, organized in ascending order of difficulty, engage not only with technical aspects of piano playing but also with the fundamentals of composition - from Imitation and Inversion, Ostinato, and Free Variations, concerning compositional technique, to mood pieces and pieces with programmatic ideas such as Notturno, Boating, From the Diary of a Fly, or the famous Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm. Mikrokosmos first appeared in 1940 in six volumes. Based on volume 40 of the Bartók CompleteEdition published in 2020(Z. 15040), the present Urtext edition offers the series gathered in three volumes. This edition includes Bartók's preface, exercises, and notes written for the first edition. Furthermore, it also features a preface and comments by the editor, which not only discuss the genesis and the compositional sources but also provide performers, teachers and pupils alike, with authentic and detailed information about Bartók's notation and the specific performing problems of Mikrokosmos.

The Scubert volume now appearing in the Leggiero series gives a varied picture of the dances of the first third of the 19th century. These include waltzes, galops, minuets, landler, sentimental waltzes, a series of ecossaises, and Wiener Deutsche. The dances, although typical, are individual in character. The range of the violin parts does not go beyond the third position or that of the cello part beyond the fourth position. The viola may be replaced by a third violin section, so the part is provided in both an alto and treble clef version. The material also includes an ad libitum double-bass part.

The song cycle Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs) by Johannes Brahms consists of eleven settings of Hungarian folk songs in a German adaptation by Hugo Conrat, which, according to the composer, could be understood to form a novel-like structure. Four more of these were later published as part of the Six Quartets op. 112 (CHB 16000). The cycle originated in a relatively short time in February 1888 and went into print in October 1888, as the editor of the respective volume of the new Brahms complete edition is explaining in detail in the preface. In a way, the Zigeunerlieder op. 103 form the exotic counterpart of the Liebeslieder (Love Songs) op. 52 and op. 65 and the vocal counterpart of the Hungarian Dances. Although Brahms had conceived them for vocal quartets in domestic use, public performances with choirs already happened during his lifetime. This tradition continues until today, taking advantage of modern grand pianos with a larger volume to enable a larger choral scoring.
