Georg Friedrich Händel: Chambers Duets for Soprano Alto and Basso cont.:

Here for the first time in a popularly accessible edition are 35 of his finest keyboard works for solo instruments reproduced from the monumental Deutsche Handelgesellschaft edition including eight 'Great Suites' and 'Fugue In A Minor'. For this new edition the pieces have been rearranged and retitled according to the latest scholarly sequences found in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. Students and scholars will find many of the ideas Handel sketched here expanded and reworked in later chamber and orchestral works and in the opera dance movements; musicians and every Baroque music lover will see in these neglected pieces 'a Protean Fluidity' (New Grove) worthyof the great composer and more than worthy of any musical library.

This authentic arrangement of ten movements from the Water Music suites dates from Handel’s lifetime but is published here for the first time edited by the distinguished Handel scholar Donald Burrows. Agrippina is married to her third husband the Roman emperor Claudius. After he is presumed dead she attempts with deception andintrigue to place her son Nero on the throne.The vocal score includes all the numbers from the appendix of the full score. Henry Purcell (1659-1695) held numerous appointments at the Royal Court and Westminster Abbey and is considered by many to be the greatest ever English-born composer. His prolific work covered all fields: orchestral ecclesiastical operatic theatrical incidental and chamber music were all enriched by his output. The Opera Ottone was written in 1723 for the Royal Academy of Music. The aria La Speranza e Guinta waschosen from it by Arthur Somervell as one of ten arias he arranged for Piano and Voice. It was re-titled Spring with new English lyrics that bear no resemblance to the translation.It is printed here in twodifferent keys: in D for Low Voice and E for High Voice.
