Score-Karel Husa (b. 1921) is an American composer and conductor who was born and raised in Czechoslovakia. Pastorale For String Orchestra (1979) was commissioned by the American String Teachers Association for their 1980 conference the year that Husa was their orchestra’s guest conductor. The original material dates from around 1944 from a Sonatina for Violin and Piano both of which Husa learnt to play as a child - but the intervening years allowed the composer to bring a new more mature reflection to the lyrical melodic lines and simple counterpoint. A beautiful masterpiece it will allow any string ensemble to showcase theirtalents.

Initially for Saxophone and Orchestra this edition of Élégie Et Rondeau by Karel Husa is for Saxophone and Piano and lasts 10 minutes. Written for advanced players this piece is dedicated to Sigurd M. Rascher. Divided into two very distinct sections the Elegy and the Rondeau the Elegy starts “Quasi improvisando” on a slow tempo (60) and requires some good technique as part of it relies on improvisation. The Rondeau “Allegretto” is also quite challenging and requires a mastering of breathing techniques. Élégie Et Rondeau is a perfect piece toplay for recitals. Karel Husa is a Czech-born conductor and composer who later became an American national. His work is mainly classical and he won the Pulitzer Prize for his contribution to music.

Karel Husa (b. 1921) is an American composer who was born and raised in Czechoslovakia. His Concerto For Trumpet And Wind Orchestra (1973) was commissioned by two American National Band Fraternities and premiered at their Biennial convention by the National Inter-Collegiate Band. It has been arranged here for Trumpet and Piano. The Concerto consists of three movements: Intrada Intermezzo Fanfare and demands the highest level of technical proficiency from the soloist. It uses a range of mutes with influences from blues jazz and Berlioz and calls for a range of some four and a half octaves.

Karel Husa's Sonatina was composed in 1945 and premiered september 27 1945 in Prague. Duration: c. 15 minutes.

Score-Commissioned by the Michigan State University Alumni Band this three movement work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Karel Husa was the winner of the first Louis Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in 1983.Previously available only in rental we are proud to offer this important work for publication.A note from the composer: Divided into three movements this work is a display of virtuoso passages given to solo instrumentsas well as to the groups of the ensemble. In the Fanfare of the first movement the brass section “concertizes” in groups of four brass quintets (2 trumpets horn trombone and tuba or baritone) spread from left toright in back. The saxophones (S A T B) are placed in front of the brass quintets and the woodwinds occupy the front of the stage with percussion on the left and right side. These groups like the brass quintets play in theconcertante style particularly in the first and last movements. At the same time each movement contains individual solo passages (for example timpani and flute in Movement I – “Drum Ceremony” andEnglish horn and other low woodwinds in Movement II – “Elegy”). The composition of this piece was prompted by the excellence of wind and percussion players today and by the incredible growth of wind ensembles orchestras and bands in the last 25 years. It is intended for their enjoyment.
