Motet Libera Me (Deliver Me) WAB 22, is the second of two settings of this work, originally for 5-part chorus, 3 Trombones and figured bass and was composed in 1854 for the funeral of an important church figure in Sankt Florian. The music of about 5-6 minutes in length is heartfelt, profound and gracious. Ralph Sauer's excellent arrangement for 5-part Trombone Ensemble is a thrill to perform and is appropriate for advanced performers.

The responsory Libera me from the Requiem Mass dates from Bruckner's years of study in Kronstorf and is stylistically reminiscent of the early Viennese classical period. The organ takes over the function of the basso continuo.

Seyf ried uses the same key as the Requiem, its distinctive orchestral sonority and quotes two passages from Mozart’s work prompted by clauses in the liturgical text. The ‘Libera me’ was widely used in nineteenth-century Vienna, both in its original version for voices and instrumental ensemble, and for voices and organ alone. This edition allows both types of performance..

As a singing teacher, choir director and not least as a passionate professional choir singer, Irina Rebhuna is perfectly familiar with the possibilities of the human voice. And so it is hardly surprising that the Latvian musician born in 1988 has devoted herself especially to the composition of vocal music. Her sacred choral work Libera me, Domine for mixed a cappella choir (SSAATTBB) won the special prize for the 'best composition for 4-6 voices' at the International Composition Competition 'Musica Sacra Nova' 2016. This church music gem, in which the eponymous Gregorian chorale is intonated by one of the (two) bass baritone sections at the beginning - over a musical tapestry woven by the remaining voices - and taken up again by all tenors at the end, is ideal for ambitious amateur choirs. The idea behind this work, says the composer, is 'the human reflection on the uncertain - on death, on Judgment Day or on what is inexplicable to us. Such as humility, excitement, fear, and atonement. The chant ends without ending, there is no solution. Life goes on because we ask the following question again and again: What will happen next?'.

Napoli e l'Europa (Naples and Europe) - Masterpieces of the Neapolitan School selected by Riccardo Muti for the Salzburg Whitsun Festival Project in association with the Ravenna Festival Betulia liberata, for four voices, strings, two oboes, two horns and basso continuo, was the second oratorio by Niccolo Jommelli (1714-1774), following Isacco figura del Redentore. It was composed in 1743 to a commission from the Fathers of the Congregation of the Oratorio of Saint Philip Neri, and was widely performed in Italy throughout the 18th century, as well as in Prague and in London. Metastasio's text proved popular with composers, and Jommelli's version of this text is one of the most felicitous on account of its impact, variety and consistent inventiveness, and also for the care he took in matching the music to the drama. The brilliant combination of different styles and forms, the attention to dramatic characterisation, and the power of invention displayed by Jommelli in Betulia liberata make him the foremost Italian composer of the mid-eighteenth century, pre-eminence recognised by the music critics and historians of his age.

At long last: complete with the Libera me Domenico Cimarosa's Requiem, composed in 1787, achieved widespread dissemination through copies shortly after its premiere, and has remained a repertoire work of classical church music to this day.

At long last: complete with the Libera me Domenico Cimarosa's Requiem, composed in 1787, achieved widespread dissemination through copies shortly after its premiere, and has remained a repertoire work of classical church music to this day. All the more amazing is the discovery of an authentic, subsequently added Libera me movement that is found in the main sources (autograph score, original parts), but had not been published up to now. The complete liturgical form of the Requiem requires a Libera me and with this new edition, Cimarosa's Requiem can now finally be performed again its entirety, more than 200 years after it was written. Reinmar Emans' new Urtext edition thus contains much more than just the previously known music text. Valuable aid was provided here by a number of contemporary copies which yielded further important details.
