Have you ever wondered what music in the time of Jesus sounded like? Based on several years of intense study and research, Christopher Moroney and SAVAE have imaginatively and brilliantly reconstructed the msuic that Jesus might have heard in the temple and synagogue of the first century C.E. The ensemble learned to play reconstructed instruments of the period especially for this recording--varieties of plucked and bowed strings, wind instruments like the shofar and flute, and percussion. The music has been recreatd from Hebrew melodic fragments, Babylonian Jewish music, and traditional songs that have passed down through the ages from the time of Jesus. The end result is an amazing restoration of what Jesus may have heard. Highlights include settings of the Lord's Prayer and the Beatitudes, Miriam's Song of the Sea, the Ten Commandments, and the traditional Shema Israel (Hear, O Israel).

The piano-accompanied Lied is undoubtedly the main genre of Pauline Viardot-Garcia's oeuvre. With this volume, we present settings of German texts by such poets as Ludwig Uhland, Eduard Morike, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Heinrich Heine, Emanuel Geibel, Ludwig Rellstab and Richard Pohl. Except for the Uhland settings, these German Lieder were written between 1862 and 1871 during Viardot's Baden-Baden period, when she shifted the focus of her activities from singing to composing and teaching. Here she worked, among other things, on the poetry of Eduard Morike, which she called the greatest and most genuine in all German poetry after Goethe. One of her first published songs was the setting of the Uhland poem Des Knaben Berglied. Accompanying herself on the piano, she performed it in 1838 on her first concert tour of Germany. A performance of the song at the Leipzig Gewandhaus prompted Robert Schumann to remark: She showed three talents here [composition, singing and piano playing], each of which would grace its artist. Through her music, Viardot brings the creatures in the poems to life, tracing their different characters and inner states, thus giving the texts a new level of interpretation.Mi riam-Alexandra Wigber's recordings of songs from this edition can be found on YouTube.

New from Christy and Daniel Semsen and WordKidz, All About That Baby is a delightfully fresh presentation of the blessed story of Jesus' birth.People everywhere are making the journey to the place of their birth, in compliance with Caesar's decree that everyone should register for the census. This results in the little town of Bethlehem overflowing with people arriving from out of town. Nathaniel, a lovable but scatter-brained, late-for-work shepherd, bumps into two of those travelers, Joanna and Simone, as he rushes to take his shift at watching the flock. The other shepherds (his sisters Miriam and Abigail), along with Judah, are waiting for Nathaniel--late once again--to arrive. Thus begins a story that is All About That Baby, with some shepherds, angels, out-of-towners...and singing, talking sheep to guide us along the way!Song Titles: Morning in Bethlehem (Underscore 1A), Morning in Bethlehem (Underscore 1B) * Waiting for a Miracle with O Come,O Come, Emmanuel; Sheep Trip (Underscore 2) * Sheep Stuff; A Deep, Dark Night (Underscore 3) * Messiah * All About that Baby * Star in the Sky with We Three Kings; Plan B (Underscore 4); Sheep Run (Underscore 5) * That Holy Night with O Holy Night * He Shall Reign Forevermore * Hope for a Broken World with Sheep Stuff and All About that Baby (Reprise) * Sheep Bows.
