Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) was a pianist and composer of international stature and one of the towering figures of early 20th century music. He left behind an ouvre consisting of some 170 works, many of which await discovery or are known only in forms far removed from the composer's intentions. Sergei Rachmaninoff : Critical Edition of the Complete Works (RCW), a project issued by Russian Music Publishing, is the first complete edition of Rachmaninoff 's music prepared in accordance with scholarly criteria while meeting the demands of performers. It catalogues, explores, and annotates every available musical, literary, and iconographic source on Rachmaninoff 's music. The RCW is published under the scholarly auspices of Dr. Valentin Antipov. The editorial standards of the RCW satisfy the most discerning criteria and are safeguarded by an Editorial Board of internationally acknowledged authorities in Rachmaninoff scholarship. Alexandre Rachmaninoff (1933-2012), the composer's grandson, has been retained as a special advisor. The RCW is furthermore realized in close cooperation with the Glinka State Central Museum of Musical Culture, which houses one of the most extensive collections of Rachmaninoff autographs worldwide. All sources are consulted for the first time and all compositions are presented in their authentic form with all existing versions from the composer.

While composing this beautiful chorale, Hayato Hirose was inspired by the fond memory of the pre-marital days he spent with his beloved wife, Minako.The chorale starts with gorgeous woodwinds, after which the brass section is gradually added to enhance the atmosphere. The main theme is repeated and developed in several different keys in the middle section, followed by the recapitulation and the romantic coda that concludes the work. Moment Musical gives any concert programme a touch of warmth and tenderness.De inspiratiebron voor het schrijven van dit prachtige koraal vond Hayato Hirose in zijn aangename herinnering aan de verlovingstijd die hij doorbracht met Minako, zijn geliefde echtgenote. L’élaboration de ses pièces renferme de nombreux points énigmatiques, mais on sait que leurs créations s’échelonnent entre 1823 – date de la parution de « l’allegro moderato » – et 1827 – date de l’édition de ces six moments musicaux.Cette œuvre est constituée de : Moderato n°1 en ut mineur, Andantino n°2 en fa mineur, Allegro moderato n°3 en fa mineur, Moderato n°4 en ut dièse mineur, Allegro Vivace n°5 en fa mineur, Plainte d’un troubadour n°6 en la bémol majeur. Ce dernier a été également publié séparément en 1824.L’allegro moderato appelé communément « l’air russe » est la plus célèbre des six petites pièces. Malgré le fait que son plan soit assez distinct et formel, sa conception ne respecte plus une architecture rigoureuse, ce qui contribue à laisser libre arbitre à l’imagination harmonique et mélodique du musicien. Cette petite pièce est chargée d’exprimer des moments psychologiques par l’alternance d’instants vifs et rythmés très contrastés qui oblige finalement une souplesse formelle.Schubert invite les pianistes à partager cet instant musical par une grande concentration psychologique à travers un décor atmosphérique continuellement en mouvement.

Night Music The clarinet in Clifford Odets's comedy Night Music is directly involved in the stage plot: it is played by the main character and characterizes his moods and actions. The composer Hanns Eisler's estate contains several clarinet solos coming from the play's context; the most challenging of these is the Moment Musical (called that only later), evidently deleted by the composer in favor of alternatives that were easier to play. Two such alternatives are reproduced in the appendix to this first edition. All three works are suitable for pedagogical practice as well as for concert performance, thanks to their sometimes brilliant, sometimes pensive musicality, together with their exemplary musical quality.

Until his appointment as composition teacher at the Musikhochschule ofCologne in 1957, Bernd Alois Zimmermann earned his living chiefly byarranging works of other composers for the radio. Vier Bearbeitungen (FourArrangements) for the Ellegiers Sextet was written at the WDR in Cologne at that time. Zimmermann held the concertmaster Ellegiers in high esteem because of his profound musicality and arranged about twenty pieces for his ensemble between 1949 and 1952. The three Schubert arrangements'Sehnsuchtswa lzer', 'Landler' and 'Moments musicaux', as well as 'Traumerei' from Kinderszenen Op. 15 by Robert Schumann show very clearly how popular these works were in the radio programme of the broad-casting station.
