(Christoph Dohr).

Carl Smith's experience as a musicologist and performer specializing in early keyboard literature combines with inspiration from Italy's art and culture to form a collection of short organ pieces that are suitable for small and large organs. Two works are based on hymns from the Advent and Christmas seasons (Conditor alme siderum and Silent Night). The others are original pieces of varied character suitable as service voluntaries or recital selections.

At just 34 years of age, Theodore Dubois was installed as a professor of harmony at the Paris Conservatoire. Whilst much of his compositional works have disappeared from primary classical repertoire, his 12 New Pieces for Organ remain prominent. Whilst being a significant figure in the field of teaching, Dubois was also a revered organist, occupying the post of organist at the Madeleine. Dubois' 12 New Pieces vary in character, beginning with a helpful index of performance directions. For all aspiring, advanced organists, Dubois' 12 New Pieces ensure variety and versatility within the repertoire..

Composed in 1980, Ten pieces for Organ by Eugene Gigout is a piece that is widely enjoyed. Featuring the renowned Toccata in B minor which is often played in recitals, a Scherzo in E major can also be found among these pieces. Well-known as an organist, Eugene Gigout was also a composer and one of the main organists in one of Paris' main churches: Saint Augustin. Really good for interpretations, he was also at improvisations..

Composer 's Note:
In writing these pieces I had in mind certain difficulties which worry most organists from time to time; and in order to combine, as it were, business with pleasure I thought it worthwhile to concentrate upon one aspect of organ technique in each piece, even at the risk of making them a little more difficult than others in this series.
In Procession the main difficulty lies in the pedals Arabesque, on the other hand could hardly have had a simpler pedal part: its object is to exercise the left hand in producing a smooth, running semi-quaver pattern Pageant with its cross-rhythms, is designed to produce well-disciplinedhands and feet that can, when required, work in conflicting rhythms.
I have kept the registration schemes as simple and straightforward as possible.
