Par BEATLES THE. Strawberry Fields Forever was John Lennon's homage to the garden of a Salvation Army children's home in Liverpool. It gave The Beatles a psychedelic hit in 1967. The name was eventually adopted for a small memorial garden on the West Side of New York's Central Park opposite Lennon's final address, The Dakota apartment building. Here this evocative song is arranged for SATB with piano accompaniment by Jeremy Birchall. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Recueil / Choeur Mixte (SATB) et Piano

G.F. Handel's masterful L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato have been expertly-edited by Donald Burrows to present this complete vocal score arranged for two Soprano Tenor and Bass Soli with an SATB Chorus and Orchestra. This complete edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato features the 1740 1741 and 1743 scores reflecting Handel's personal changes involving alternative and additional movements. The 1740 score is a complete reconstruction requiring two Soprano a Tenor and a Bass soloists. For the longer 1741 score Handel added extra movements toaccommodate additional soloists the complete version of which is included here. Finally the 1743 score boasts a radical change from the previous years with a removal of part three and a significant rearrangement of other movements. L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato was first performed on the 27th of February 1740 at the Lincoln's Inn Fields theatre after just over a month of drafting. The work is a setting of a libretto by James Harris and Charles Jennens based on John Milton's two complementary yet contrasting poems about the relative virtues of happiness and melancholy. This edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato presents practical versions of the score which are based on the musical schemes of Handel's performances in 1741 and 1743. For a complete vocal score of this masterpiece by one of the all-time great composers this Novello Handel Edition is authoritative.

Paul Mealor's Behold A Tender Babe is a work for Unaccompanied SATB Choir commissioned by the Hauser-Oberschneider family to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Summer Fields School. The work sets extracts from Robert Southwell's 'In Freezing Winter Night' and lasts around 4 minutes. A review in the September 2016 issue of Organist's Review states that the 'music responds sensitively and dramatically to the lines of the lyric it chooses to set rising triumphantly at the words 'with joy approach' before gently falling away as it repeatedly insists 'behold a tender babe'.' No less difficult but also no less rewarding is PaulMealor’s Behold a tender babe written a year earlier. But it is carefully written so that the difficulties are manageable. The two places where sopranos have a top C are the only points where sopranos divide so only the first sopranos ascend there. The music follows the details of the words with drama at ‘do homage to thy King’ and then falling away most beautifully to ‘behold a babe’. - Julian Elloway

Three jazz hymns. These jazz arrangements of well-known hymns were written for Andrew Earis and choirs of St Martin-in-the-Fields, London for various services and BBC broadcasts from that church. The setting of Come down, O Love divine supplies some new harmonic moves to Vaughan Williams? lovely tune Down Ampney, gradually adding vocal harmony through the verses, with a short descant section in the final verse. The compound-time arrangement of God is Love, which can also be sung to the supplied words of Charles Wesley?s hymn Love Divine, again adds more of Todd?s iconic jazz harmonies and textures in the vocal parts with each successive verse. The setting of Let all mortal flesh keep silence is structured to gradually build layers over the moody piano chords and the pedal harmony. At the end the music builds to a large climax for ?Lord most high?. The hymns can be performed using the supplied piano part or using the chord symbols above. Double bass may also be used in addition to piano, again following the supplied chord symbols, and parts for optional jazz ensemble are available. Performers of these hymns should feel free to include the congregation or audience in imaginative ways.

All I Ask Of You is the love song that triggers the Phantom of The Opera's jealous campaign of retribution in Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical - Cliff Richard and Sarah Brightman took it for a spin in 1986 and had a hit single. Big Spender became even more popular than the 1966 musical from which it came - 'Sweet Charity' - and Shirley Bassey did much to popularise it later. Written specifically for Colm Wilkinson, Bring Him Home is the emotional song from Act II of Les Misérables while I Have A Dream is a no less emotional Abba number that is included in the record-breaking stage musical Mamma Mia. Last Night Of The World is the haunting dance hall song from Miss Saigon that marks the fateful promise made by the US airman to take Kim with him when he leaves Vietnam. This volume in the Novello Choral Pops collection contains all five of these musical theatre favourites, arranged for SATB Choir with Piano accompaniment. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Piano

The Vocal Score for Tarik O'Regan's 2004 composition Threnody forms a part of the larger cantata Triptych but works beautifully as a piece in its own right. Lasting around five minutes Threnody was commissioned with funds from The RVW Trust for the Choir of London's inaugural concert in Christ Church Spitalfields on the 18th of December 2004. The work is arranged for SATB Chorus and String Orchestra and this item is the Vocal Score. Taking the lyrics from a diverse range of literary sources including William Blake's Auguries of Innocence William Penn and Psalm133 the solemn beauty of these texts is matched by the dynamism of the vocal performances in conjunction with the staccato rhythms of the orchestra. Crescendos and diminuendos give a sense of urgency and excitement to the vocals the harmonies of which are expertly composed.

The texts, in English, are excerpted from a variety of sources: William Penn, William Blake, the Psalms of David and Muhammad Rajab Al-Bayoumi, an Egyptian poet of the early twentieth-century. Fast and rhythmically influenced by the music of North Africa in its syncopations, this movement was the first composition that evolved entirely from my New York perspective. From the moment that the commission for And There Was a Great Calm (movements II and amp - III here) was offered, I knew the piece I was about to embark upon would end up being linked with Threnody in some way. I realized that what I had been aiming for in Threnody served as a template for this new piece, originally composed for a Remembrance Sunday concert. Musical works connected with commemoration or memorials are often suitably pensive and slow - I wanted to start with that concept, but to bring in some of the relentless urban rhythms that had been such a large influence on my life in the preceding two years. The result is that that the second movement is quiet and gentle (a moment of recollection), while the final movement is much faster and vibrant, returning to a more openly elated rendering of the start of Triptych (the texts here dealing with transmigration and the future). and nbsp - I gratefully acknowledge the assistance of Bruce Ruben and Judith Clurman, as well as that of my parents, with the collation of the texts.
