Par SCHUBERT FRANZ. Schubert adapta cinq de ses nombreux lieder sous forme de pièces instrumentales. Ainsi, la mélodie de «La Truite», lied composé en 1817, lui servit-elle de thème pour les variations de son quintette pour piano, violon, alto, violoncelle et contrebasse D 667 qui reste l’une des oeuvres les plus populaires de toute la musique de chambre. La tonalité solaire de la pièce – beaucoup plus gaie que les autres oeuvres de musique de chambre de Schubert – semble faire écho au bonheur de l’été 1819. Schubert composa cette pièce à 22 ans alors qu’il venait de passer l’été en compagnie agréable à Steyr, en Haute-Autriche. La présente édition Urtext se conforme pour l’essentiel à la premièreédition viennoise, vraisemblablement la version originale du manuscrit autographe aujourd’hui disparu. Elle prend également en compte l’unique source manuscrite de cette oeuvre, une copie réalisée par un ami de Schubert, Albert Stadler. Par VAUGHAN WILLIAMS RALPH. Quintet in D is in four movements: Allegro moderato - Allegretto Intermezzo - Andantino , and - Allegro molto finale . If it only fitfully contains elements of the mature Vaughan Williams, it is a delightful work in its own right, with playful touches and more than a ration of charm. The writing for piano is very accomplished and shatters the myth, much propagated by the composer himself, that he lacked technique. It is like anglicised Brahms with a sense of humour, notably in the Intermezzo, and there is even an allusion to the slow movement of Brahms' Fourth Symphony in the Andantino.
