The 'Notturno', the first movement of Trio, originates from 'E flat', the notewhich made 'Schumann in Endenich' hear the music of heaven. The famous 'Last Thought', however, is not quoted. Instead, the image of Schumann's melody is evoked in the listener's mind by the help of an augmented triad, stretched to breaking point, which is inverted and transposed again and again.Even the following movements do not quote directly but present only a notion. Accordingly, Volker David Kirchner describes his work as a 'procession of musical visions', the subtitles of which are no references to certain themes but to the associated composers and stylistic means.'Notturno', the first movement of Trio originates from 'E flat', the note which made 'Schumann in Endenich' hear the music of heaven. Clarinet, Violin & Piano Duration: 16 ' Composed: 1979 Published by: Verdehr Trio Inventions on the Summer Solstice was written for the Verdehr Trio in 1979. It is an evocative work, enhanced by such effects as the spatial modulation of the violin and the second invention, and the addition of claves, maracas, wire brushes used inside the piano, and a toy cricket to augment ensemble’s timbral resources.

The rags in this collection are early compositions of David Lovrien, written when he was as young as 16 years old. Interlochen was written in 1980 and is dedicated to his girlfriend of that summer at the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan. It also owes a debt to another friend, Gregory Loselle, whose Broadway-musical-in-progr ess inspired the trio melody. Lewisville (1987) is subtitled A Slow Drag – referring to the specific ragtime dance style and probably not the character of the town of Lewisville, Texas where the composer lived when it was written. A Shy Smile (1979) was written after meeting a particularly cute french horn player in San Antonio, Texas during the TMEA All-State convention.

Nadia Boulanger: Melodies, volume 2 (AL 30 752) A student of Gabriel Faure and Louis Verne at the Paris Conservatoire, Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979) owes her aura to an exceptional teaching career spanning nearly 75 years, during which she trained the most illustrious musicians, from Copland to Glass not to forget Bernstein or Gardiner. In the past few years, her creative work, long considered negligible, has finally been escaping from oblivion thanks to the untiring work of the Centre Nadia et Lili Boulanger, directed by Alexandra Laederich.

In this trio, the composer Enjott Schneider again displays his inventiveness which is of course pushed to its limits due to the reference to the famous character Karl Valentin from Munich. By using musical means which even include theatrical effects, Schneider succeeds in creating a loving homage to Karl Valentin (1882-1948) and his leftist thinking, to his bizarre logic and word acrobatics, to the escalating prevention and destructive performance.Schneider has been professor of music theory, meanwhile of film composition, in Munich since 1979. His extensive activities as a composer, performer, music writer and lecturer make him a versatile musician whose compositional oeuvre ranges from 'classic' avant-garde to pop.
