Commissione d by the French Government and Musica Strasbourg. As the title suggests, Trois rivières is divided into three separate sections. The first part introduces all the instrumental colours used in the piece. The rhythmic aspect is here nearly eliminated, giving room for the timbral scales, colours, resonances, attacks and textures to come to the fore. The instruments come from all members of the percussion family, but unpitched instruments are given a primary role. The second part adds a rhythmic aspect to the nuances of colour and texture, as an ostinato is developed in markedly varying directions. The last part is an epilogue, recalling components of the two preceding parts. Here, earlier aspects of the material are reorganised and placed in different relationships to each other. The voices of the percussionists act together as an extension of the instruments, being used to create either rhythmically free textures or strictly notated rhythms. They are treated instrumentally, combining to create rhythms and timbres. The poem 'La nuit de lune sur le fleuve' (Moonlit night on the river) by the Chinese poet Li Po (701-762) constitutes the material for the voices, which are amplified and further enhanced throughout.

“Don†™t listen to anyone’s advice, but listen to the lessons of the wind passing and telling the history of the world.†Claude Debussy Since the dawn of time, the wind has played an important role in all civilisations. Worshipped as a deity, “mastermind†of poetry, driving force, or heaven’s messenger, the wind took on the most varied shapes according to the era and people. In Claude Debussy’s time, music listened to the voice of nature, and imagination found its primary rights again. This importance of wind was the inspiration for Maxime Aulio’s work Whispering Wind with its suspended atmospheres, vaporous lines and luminous colours. The wind caresses the canvas. A fascinatingnew work for concert band.

What does a little musician do when he feels lonely? He is looking for a comrade. And soon, there will be an orchestra of 10 players making music together: with rattles, cookware, a drum, a flute, a xylophone, etc.The text is nicely illustrated by full-page pictures in four colours, making the children familiar with the numbers 1-10. The song of the 10 little musicians is printed at the end of the book. In addition, this book provides suggestions for how to make the instruments described in the story by oneself by using things and materials from everyday life. - It might perhaps be fun to stage the song in kindergarten or primary school. This is very easy with the help of the accompanying CD containing a recording of the song to sing-along. That way the performance will be a guaranteed successIncluded in the list of recommended educationally worthy picture books 2004 of the German Gesellschaft fur Jugend- und Sozialforschung GJSF [Society for Youth and Social Research].For children aged 4+.
