Two Shakespeare Songs were written in 1989-1990. Cry, Cock-a-Doodle-Doo was written first, and is scored for Soprano Voice and Piano. It takes its text from a song by Ariel in The Tempest. The Witches' Song is for solo Soprano, with the text coming from Macbeth. Both are dramatic works which allow the performer to showcase her virtuosity; either would be a perfect audition piece or both could be combined as complementary items on a recital programme.
Alison Bauld (b. 1944) is an Australian-born composer and writer who lives and works in London. Her compositions are distinguished by their dramaticstructure, partly inspired by musical theatre. She has also written a three-volume tutor for keyboard and composition.

“Sha ke It Up With Shakespeare” is part of the “Rise and Shine Series”. This musical for 2-part voices will provide your students with a fun and unforgettable introduction to English literature's most famous writer, William Shakespeare. Shakespeare not only wrote a wide range of plays and sonnets that touch upon all aspects of the “human condition,” he also created words and phrases that are still very much a part of our everyday language. Through the use of an easily memorized rhyming script and a healthy sprinkling of his most famous quotes, this musical serves as the basis for an overview of five well-known Shakespearean plays. The opening song is followed by five musical selections that highlight the essence of the plays featured: two comedies, two tragedies and one history. Along with his ability to expose the darker aspects of human nature, Shakespeare also demonstrated a gift for highlighting the humorous side of everyday life. The six original songs written for this musical are more reflective of the latter perspective of his works. The Enhanced Teacher Edition includes piano/vocal arrangements, rhyming program script as well as choreography, prop, staging and performance suggestions. The enclosed CD-ROM offers reproducible singer and speaking parts. A performance/accompaniment CD is available separately or in a kit with the enhanced Teacher edition. Suggested for Grades 2-5. Performance Time: 20 minutes.

Lyrics by William Shakespeare.
Settin gs of two Shakespeare texts by John Hind, for the upper voices (SSA) with a full Piano accompaniment. The first, Come Away, Death is a sombre moment from Twelfth Night, with the second, Will You Buy Any Tape? taken from A Winter's Tale. The simple tonalities of the first song, coupled with the joyful dance-like rhythms of the second, suggest a courtly early-Renaissance sound characteristic of Shakespeare's time.

This is the latest â?? and 7th â?? in an a cappella series going back three decades in which the texts are taken from Shakespeare's plays. â??Come Unto These Yellow Sandsâ? is a gentle invitation to the listener, at least until the animals take over. â??Thou Canst Not Hit It,â? in this interpretation, is a song about trying to hit the high and low notes. Surrounded by comedy and tragedy, â??Honour, Riches, Marriage-Blessingâ? is the idyllic center of the set. â??O Sweet Oliver,â? with its dueling boy and girl choirs, leads into â??Willow, Willow,â? where the poem's word repetitions inspire the driving rhythm.
