Composed by Carl Maria von Weber for solo viola with orchestra, the Hungarian Rondo has become a standard repertoire bassoon solo. This edition offers a choice of soloist, including bassoon, bass clarinet, euphonium, or tuba. The band setting is carefully arranged to require a minimum of preparation time, and is playable with either full concert band, or if accompanying a soloist requiring greater presence, just woodwinds and horns. Commissione d by the South Carolina Chapter of Phi Beta Mu Band Fraternity in honor of Lorraine Paris, Band Director for 47 years at Newberry High School, Newberry, SC. Lorraine Paris is a native of Greenville, South Carolina, where she graduated from Parker High School. She received her B.S. in Music Education from Winthrop College and her M.A. from Furman University. She began her teaching career in 1948 in Newberry, South Carolina, where she taught for the next 47 years until her retirement in 1995. A member of numerous musical organizations, including Phi Beta Mu and the Theta chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, she served as the first president of the South Carolina Band Directors Association and currently serves as their first Executive Secretary-Treasurer. She has been named Outstanding Bandmaster and Outstanding Contributor by the South Carolina Chapter of Phi Beta Mu, and was also named to that organization's Hall of Fame. Other honors include the South Carolina Career Service Award from ASBDA, the Silver Baton and Scroll of Excellence Awards from WBDNA, and the Band World Legion of Honor. In 1993, she was presented the Key to the City of Newberry, and at her retirement, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto from the State of South Carolina. Pavel Haas (1899–1944), one of LeoÅ¡ Janácek’s most talented pupils, composed his Wind Quintet op. 10 in 1929. This work was issued by the Prague publisher Edition Sádlo in 1934, and is one of the few compositions that was printed during his lifetime. Its first performance took place in Brno on 24 March 1930. With its relative brevity and standard instrumentation (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon), it is currently gaining in popularity among wind ensembles. The composer structured the quintet as a four-movement suite with the titles „Preludio“, „Preghiera“, „Ballo eccentrico“ and „Epilogo“.This first Urtext edition of the Wind Quintet is based on the original print which was proofread by the composer in 1935, as well as the autograph score and a copyist’s manuscript. The publication has been supported by the TerezÃn Composers‘ Institute.

This standard work of the cello literature has been extracted from volume II of the Complete Works for Violoncello and Pianoforte (BA 9096 and BA 9097) which was published in 2016. Mendelssohn scholar R. Larry Todd edited the scholarly-critical edition ofSong without Words.This work is not based on the surviving autograph manuscript, which could not have been the basis for the posthumous first edition, but rather on the only plausible source: the German first edition itself. This was published in 1868 as op. 109 and is unquestionably based on an untraceable complete final manuscript, perhaps once previously owned by the dedicatee, French cellist Lisa Barbier Cristiani.The publication is free from editorial amendments and modern performance instructions and provides an excellent basis for musical interpretation.
