String Trio

Following the first two volumes of Haydn’s String Trios in a study score (HN 9424 and 9425) we are now publishing the third and final one. Although Haydn is said to have composed about 60string trios most of them must be discounted for source-critical and stylistic reasons. The eighteen trios which definitely lay claim to authenticity were published in volumes 1 and 2. The third volume contains eight triosattributed to Haydn although his authorship cannot be proven. In addition to the Urtext edition (HN 628) these charming works are now also available in a handy score format. The musical text is that of the HaydnComplete Edition and it has been complemented by a new and informative preface by the Haydn scholar Sonja Gerlach.

Rarement donnés en concert ces petits bijoux de la musique de chambre sont pleins de surprises et très plaisants à jouer. Les 18 trios conservés font l?objet de deux recueils élaborés sur la base de l?édition complète des ?uvres de Haydn également parue aux éditions Henle. Le premier volume contient les trios Hob. V:1?8 et 10?13. La préface de cette édition Urtext donne des informations utiles sur la genèse des trios. Y figurent également de nombreuses indications d?exécution en particulier des ornements.

This book of folk music from four continents, with an emphasis on love songs, keeps to the spirit of the original pieces while making the music idiomatic and fun to play. The parts are equal in difficulty (easy to intermediate) - in fact, David says that, as a violist himself, he has made sure that the violinist doesn't get all the tunes!
