Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch's Mass in 16 parts is remarkable for more than its unusual scoring. Inspired by the Italian church music style of Orazio Benevoli, it was composed in 1783 for the Berliner Sing-Akademie, and revised by Fasch several times throughout his life in order to adapt the score to the vocal capabilities of his ensemble. The composer destroyed all earlier compositions, which probably contributed to the legendary fame which this mass has enjoyed since the 19th century. The mass was, however, only published in 1839 - around four decades after Fasch's death. The present edition is based on the version contained in the first printed edition. In addition to modern music notation, extensive performance materials (two choral scores, separate organ part) facilitate the rehearsal of this challenging work. The C Minor Mass K. 427 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a fascinating work. But to speak of the Mass is inaccurate, for basically it is no more than a musical torso, full of enigmas and problems, yet full of magnificent music. It is hardly surprising that attempts have been made to create a performable version of Mozart's fragment since the 19th century. Depending on the date of reconstruction and background of the arranger, these attempts sound quite different, and often the individual style of the respective arranger can be clearly discerned. Now Frieder Bernius and Uwe Wolf have published a new edition of the Mozart mass which attempts to produce a performing version whilst maintaining the greatest respect for the available material, and without obscuring Mozart's musical manuscript with their own contributions. The joint version by Wolf, a renowned musicologist, and Bernius, an expert in historically-informed performance practice, is based on a thorough knowledge of Mozart's compositions, his notational habits, and church music practice of Mozart's day. At the same time it fully meets the requirements of today's performance practice. As well as the paperback full score, we are publishing a high-quality clothbound full score including a Facsimile Supplement with selected reproductions of the sources. Philip Stopford's new Mass setting for assembly, cantor, SATB voices and organ was commissioned for St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Richmond Heights, Missouri, to commemorate the parish's Centennial. It is a complete setting: Penitential Act (four options), Gloria (through composed), Sprinkling Rite, Gospel Acclamations (Alleluia and Lenten acclamations), Universal Prayer, Eucharistic Acclamations and Lamb of God. Latin settings of the Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei are also included. While Mr. Stopford's compositional style has the broad sweep of English church music, his flair for melody keeps it accessible for assembly. Movements such as the Holy, Holy are set creatively and will remain fresh after years of singing. Parts for brass quintet and timpani on the major movements add to a festive rendition.

This George Herbert text is set for SSA voices and piano. The text is a veiled description of Herbert’s relationship to God as paramount and beyond price. The pearl is a symbol for something sought but not easily found. The poet describes key pursuits in life (learning, honor, pleasure) and concludes “Yet I love thee.†Again and again the comparison is made between earthly and heavenly things, and the author concludes that the ultimate goal is “to climbe to thee.†There are various solo and small group opportunities marked in the music as well as “tutti choirs†and “massed voices.†Yet the music is not complex and is suitable for a variety of situations and ensembles.

With its tonal language of subjective avowal, the first of Beethoven's two masses opens up new worlds of expression for the liturgical texts of the Mass which are expressly modern and point towards the future.
