The title SONATINA D’AMORE tells it all. This brief 3-movement suite resembles a classical sonatina in form and lightness, while d’amore expresses the music’s gentle warmth, often resembling an operatic love scene. SONATINA D’AMORE is equally suitable for social duet playing as well as for recitals.Sonatina d’Amore began as a simpler set of short duets for recorders, which later was developed for a commission from Susan Nigro and Burl Lane (The Two Contras) for their Crystal CD of contrabassoon duets, and I gave the piece an Italian title in Sue’s honor. There’s a play on words as some low instruments have amore in their names, like Oboe d’Amore. My love for the sound quality of low winds was also part of the amore, and this transcription for bass clarinet (my “native instrument”) makes the title even more fitting. The music itself is a further amore, as the relationship between the instruments is often like an operatic love duet with flirtatious counterpoint and resolved parallel thirds. This adaptation for deep clarinets was created for the Morii Duo (Lindsey Hutchinson and Rick Ferrarelli) as extra repertoire while I was composing Cosmic Menagerie.

There is more light in this room when you are here is a fervently optimistic mood piece embodying the core themes of my song cycle The Lustful Mother. The title refers to another person - maybe a lover, child or friend - whose existence makes life more meaningful. In the first movement, the music wanders through the twilight, and the solitary recitation of the tenor sax is framed by answering sighs from the soprano and alto. In the second movement, the full quartet joins in the same hopeful song, that, endlessly swaying and discreetly circling, fills the whole space with its light. The work was commissioned by the Arcis Saxophone Quartet, to which it is dedicated.

This book features some of the most popular Children's songs and Folksongs for the (Descant-) Recorder in C. All songs have been arranged for the beginning recorder player and - if necessary - slightly simplified to make playing them even more fun. This makes Voggy's Recorder-Songbook the ideal companion to Voggy's Recorder Book or any other recorder school or just as a collection of nice songs to play.

Notes The Teton Range is part of the Rocky Mountain chain just east of the Idaho border and south of Yellowstone National Park. The name of this majestic range has its roots in the Shoshone teewinet, meaning many pinnacles. Performance Suggestions: The opening measures of The Grand Tetons should be played broadly and majestically. At m. 14, the tempo is indicated at q = 132 and is introduced by a light snare drum figure. The low brass figures at m.18 are to be played softly and broadly in contrast to the lighter and slightly louder high woodwinds. This entire section builds to a climax at m.44. Note the dynamic contrasts in the mixed meter section after m. 53. at 67, the trombone and horn figures should be evident but not overbearing against the lightly played trumpet solo. The 2 measure mixed meter (6/8) (3/4) theme introduced at m.88 should be performed by exaggerating the dotted 8th-16th rhythm, thereby creating a slight swing and dance-like feeling. At m.109, the 8th notes become even and the theme more strident and energetic, with the ritard returning Tetons to the opening theme at m.129.Notes The Teton Range is part of the Rocky Mountain chain just east of the Idaho border and south of Yellowstone National Park.
