ISBN 9790004184745. 9 x 12 inches. German / English.
Graham Waterhouse created a little series of lovely melodies for his son, which he then successfully performed at violoncello competitions. The eight pieces can be played alone, as well as in a suite with a random sequence. The majority are dances with rhythmical characteristics that are intended to challenge the young string players. This also applies to the expanded performance techniques that are introduced and occasionally used here. The level of difficulty ranges from the first position in Montague's March up to the fourth position in Henry Hornpipe, the most difficult piece in the cycle. Originally conceived for solo voice and piano, this edition also contains an alternative version for two violoncelli.Pieces for young (at heart) cellists.

Thomas Jefferson's Fiddle Tunes is inspired by Thomas and Martha Jefferson's musical evenings after dinner at Monticello. Composer James Meredith has taken three reels from the colonial period in American history and put them together into a potpourri setting that students will enjoy playing.Good music played well inspires the imagination. In the evenings after dinner at Monticello Thomas and Martha Jefferson enjoyed nothing better than to play music. Each was an accomplished musician. Jefferson would play the violin, and Martha would often accompany him at the piano. He especially enjoyed the music of Corelli. Thomas Jefferson’s Fiddle Tunes is an effort to depict what a musical evening might have been at the farm with guests joining in, clapping, stomping, or dancing to the lively tunes. Three reels of the Colonial period are featured in this medley. Jefferson and Liberty, Smash the Windows, and The White Cockade. Each jig is introduced by a solo violin then the whole section joins in.

Recorder specialist Marcia Diehl presents 41 favorite melodies from the Renaissance and early Baroque periods, each with suggested accompaniment chords. This era of music is particularly attractive on the recorder not only because of its lyrical qualities but also because the recorder was already one of the most popular, accessible instruments of the day.The collection features many dance tunes by Praetorius, Susato, Gervaise and John Playford plus familiar themes like â??Greensleeves,â? â??Drive the Cold Winter Away,â? and Thomas Morleyâ??s â??It Was a Lover and His Lass,â? which may have been used contemporarily onstage with William Shakespeareâ??s As You Like It. The book closes with two pieces by Beatrice de Dia, a trobairitz or female troubadour who wrote songs of courtly love.

Appalachian fiddle music, based on the musical traditions of the people who settled in the mountainous regions of the southeastern United States, is widely-known and played throughout North America and parts of Europe because of its complex rhythms, its catchy melodies, and its often-ancient-sounding stylistic qualities. The authors explore the lives and music of 43 of the classic Appalachian fiddlers who were active during the first half of the 20th century. Some of them were recorded commercially in the 1920s, such as Gid Tanner, Fiddlin? John Carson, and Charlie Bowman. Some were recorded by folklorists from the Library of Congress, such as William Stepp, Emmett Lundy, and Marion Reece. Others were recorded informally by family members and visitors, such as John Salyer, Emma Lee Dickerson, and Manco Sneed. All of them played throughout most of their lives and influenced the growth and stylistic elements of fiddle music in their regions. Each fiddler has been given a chapter with a biography, several tune transcriptions, and tune histories. To show the richness of the music, the authors make a special effort to show the musical elements in detail, but also acknowledge that nothing can take the place of listening. Many of the classic recordings used in this book can be found on the web, allowing you to hear and read the music together.

Ãdà ¡m Kondor compiled this series from poems written by Thomas Hardy after the age of 70, when the poet was mourning the death of his wife. According to the composer, he was fascinated by the figure of the rather cynically morose old poet... In his decision to have a solo violin accompany the singer he was influenced by references, in biographies of Hardy, to the poet's father's passionate violin-playing. Bockhampton is Hardy's birthplace.
