Friedrich Ferdinand Flemming (1778-1813) was a German doctor, musician and composer. He studied medicine in Wittenberg from 1796-1800 and later in Jena, Vienna and Triest. He set up his practice in Berlin and specialized in opthalmology. Shortly thereafter he founded a private institute for eye diseases, the first of its kind, in which he gave lectures on eye diseases. He stayed connected to his students in a musical fashion. He wrote, among other things, student songs, of which his Horace Ode "Integer Vitae" is the most well-known.
