Hans Jorgen Messerschmidt was born the 17th of December 1944 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
From the age of 6 he started playing the piano.
As a 10 year old he started with the trumpet in the Boy-band TIVOLIGARDEN, Copenhagen.
The musical background is as solo-trumpet in Symphony- Concert- Harmonic- Military- and Concert Band. Also Big-band and Jazz-band has he been a member of.
In 1978, he formed the brass band Canusa, which has formed the backdrop of many of the arrangements and compositions.
