L'inno "Grosser Gott, wir loben dich" fu composto dal sacerdote cattolico tedesco Ignaz Franz nel 1771, come una parafrasi dell'inno latino "Te Deum laudamus" di Sant'Ambrogio (IV secolo). Apprezzato per la sua solenne melodia, si diffuse rapidamente ed entrò a far parte anche degli innari protestanti. Oggi viene spesso usato, oltre che nella solennità della Santissima Trinità, anche durante il Corpus Domini e nelle celebrazioni di ringraziamento, come la sera del 31 dicembre.

1. Holy God, we praise Thy Name; Lord of all, we bow before Thee!
All on earth Thy sceptre claim, all in Heaven above adore Thee;
Infinite Thy vast domain, everlasting is Thy reign.

2. Hark! the loud celestial hymn angel choirs above are raising,
Cherubim and seraphim, in unceasing chorus praising;
