The Austrian clarinetist Peter Forcher is conductor of
the ‘Pannonisches Blasorchester’ and docent at the
Musical Institute Oberschützen, part of the Art
University Graz. In order to support basset horn play
he arranged pieces of famous and beautiful music for
this instrument. Franz Schubert in 1826 composed the
‘Deutsche Messe’ (D 872). No. 5 Sanctus of this
mass is ‘Heilig, heilig, heilig! Heilig ist der
Herr!’ (Holy holy, holy! Holy is the Lord!) and no. 3
is 'Noch lag die Schö...(+)

was still shapeless). In 1825 Schubert composed 7 songs
(D 839/op 52) based on Walter Scott's poem 'The Lady of
the Lake'. No. 6 of these songs is 'Ave Maria' .
Forcher arranged thess pieces for clarinet and 3 basset
horns.
