Angelo Maria Fiore (c. 1660-1723), composer and virtuoso cellist, was the founder of the Piedmont school. In 1697 he was invited to the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna as a rare cello player. During his lifetime his work entitled Trattenimenti di camera a due stromenti, violino e cimbalo o violino e violoncello was published by Bartolomeo Gregori in 1698, barely three years after the first cello sonatas to appear in print, the works of Giuseppe Jacchini. Three of the 14 Trattenimenti were written for cello and basso continuo, and they form the contents of this volume. This edition is faithful to the text of the source and the archaic style of writing has been modernized to makethe score (intended for practical, pedagogical purposes) easier to read.

Performance Material on Hire[Solo: SAATB - Str - Bc]Thanks to its patron the Duke Francesco II, Modena became a capital city worldwide for the oratorio genre: renowned maestro di cappella in Ferrara, also Bassani wished to offer to the Duke his own work, setting aside for him the summit of his melodic and dramaturgical inventiveness.According to the documents that we have, the performance of Giona was Bassani's debut at the court of Francesco II. Born in Padua around 1650, the composer carried out the main part of his activities in Ferrara, where he was organist (probably from 1667), and maestro di cappella at the Accademia della Morte (from 1683), and subsequently also at the Cathedral (from 1686); he also became a member of the Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna (in 1677) and was committed to Alessandro II Pico, Duke of Mirandola and Marquis of Concordia. In 1712 he moved to Bergamo, where he was maestro di cappella at S. Maria Maggiore; he died there on 1st October 1716. Before his commission in Modena, the <> - as he was often called at that time - had already printed seven instrumental and vocal works as well as a few operas and oratorios.

Nine of Vitali’s cantatas were written for meetings of the Accademia dei Dissonanti, an intellectual talking shop centered around Duke Francesco II's Modenese court. Many of these works are described as ‘accademia’, suggesting that the works were a distinct sub-genre of cantata at this time. Six of these cantatas survive in a single source held in the Biblioteca Estense e Universitaria, Modena (Mus. F. 1261 (1)). The source is a fair copy score from which, presumably, parts were made for the performance. Although the manuscript is undated, the last of the six, ‘Donde avvien che tutt’ebro di vera gioia l’universo’ was written to celebrate the coronation of Maria Beatrice as queen of England in 1685.

Volume 2 of this drum is designed for technical work. It can be used at the same time as Drum Method Volume 1 to learn the basics and apply them to the instrument. All the exercises and runs in this method are written with fingering beginning with the right hand. The exercises can later be performed by inverting the fingering, i.e. starting off with the left hand instead of the right.
