Shorter than the Requiem the Song of Destiny is composed in three movements for SATB Chorus on an unfinished work by Friedrich H lderlin. The work is widely loved and frequently performed and recorded.The Rev John Troutbeck the translator of the German original into English for this edition was a minor canon at Westminster Abbey as well as a gifted linguist who created translations of works for most of the great Choral works of the 19th century. Several of his translations havepersisted as the only English versions of their works for more than a century beyond his death in 1899.

Let Them Give Thanks Whom The Lord Has Redeemed is the final movements of a larger work entitled 'The Angel Of Mons' by composer Patrick Hawes dedicated to the memory of the British soldiers who Hawes believes witnessed an 'angel' during a battle in World War One. This is the Vocal Score and is arranged for SATB Chorus and Piano Accompaniment. This piece was premiered in the latter's own church on the centenary of the date the 'angel' sighting was said to have occurred. The inspiration comes from a mythical story around the Battle of Mons during World War One where a group of soldiers supposedly receiveddivine help from 'angels'. The story arose from a fictional short story by a writer that came to be known as fact despite the author's desperate pleas otherwise. The music itself is beautiful perfectly capturing the crisis of conscience and cognitive dissonance that the soldiers must have experienced being told that they were fighting for King and country yet at the same time being terrified of their own lives. 

Over the years, the need for a new edition of Mahler's Symphony #2 became apparent for several reasons. First, many new sources for this work have become accessible since 1970, when Erwin Ratz completed the first critical edition of this symphony, the most significant being Mahler's personal reference score in which he recorded changes to be made (his last entries were made in September 1910). The second reason was the significant strengthening of the editorial standards of the critical edition in recent years. The music is now computer-generated. Previously, changes to the score could be made only by retouching the film of old engravings. Computerizationalso ensures a concurrence between the score and performance materials. Editorially, the new edition benefits from expanded texts that describe and assess the source materials, document and explain the editors' decisions and provide detailed information on the work's origin, the history of the published scores, performance practices, etc. Over the past five years, Renare Stark-Voit and Gilbert Kaplan, editors of the new edition of Symphony #2, have identified, evaluated and analyzed every significant source, and as a result of their work a substantial number of errors have been corrected.
