Jascha Heifetz Version-Since their first publication by Ricordi in 1820 Paganinis Caprices Op. 1 have been sources of inspiration for many great violinists and composers. They have no equal either in beauty originality or difficulty of performance remarked the greatviolinist Ole Bull. However early editions on which most modern publications are based contain many errors as they were not proof read by the composer nor with his manuscript. Even since 1974 when the manuscript was finally published misprintspersisted in virtually every edition forcing players to rely on two or more editions. This was necessary to have both accurate notation that was more in line with Paganinis original intentions (Urtext editions) as well as useful technical markingssuch as fingerings and bowings later added by generations of master violinist. These practical editions however still contained many of the inconsistencies that were first introduced in the first and second printings. Now nearly two centuries later this edition finally offers violinists the best of both worlds uniting a newly-engraved Urtext violin part edited by Endre Granat with expert bowings and fingerings as practiced and taught by legendary violinist and Granats mentor Jascha Heifetz.

On The Fiddle consists of three pieces derived from scores to three Peter Greenaway films. The first piece Full Fathom Five is a version of the Shakespeare song setting made for Prospero's Books (1990). The second 'AngelfishDecay' is an arrangement of an arrangement: the music for the speeded up time lapse decaying animal sequences in A Zed And Two Noughts (1985) was written for two violins and a harpsichord. This was subsequently 'reduced' to aviolin solo for Zoo Caprices (1986). For 'On The Fiddle' a piano part has been added. The final piece 'Miserere Paraphrase' was written for use in The Cook The Thief His Wife And Her Lover (1989) and is a transcription ofNyman's setting of the 'Miserere' text (Psalm 51) sung in the film by a boy soprano and mixed chorus. First performed on 27 August 1993. Duration c.15 mins. Score and part included.

The Viennese Jakob Dont is considered one of the most important Violin pedagogue...(+)
The Viennese Jakob Dont is considered one of the most important Violin pedagogues of the nineteenth century and wrote numerous study pieces that are indispensable classics of the pedagogical literature for the Violin to this day. Among them are foremost his 24 ?Études et Caprices? op. 35 which were written between 1840 and 1849 but issued in their definitive form by Dont in an overhauled anthology from 1880. This very advanced collection of etudes (conservatory level) was rapidly so successful that innumerable new mostly heavily reworked editions appeared in the twentieth century from violinists such as Carl Flesch Max Rostal or IvanGalamian. Now for the first time G. Henle Publishers? Urtext edition restores access to the unadulterated original with Dont?s authentic fingering and bowing suggestions and in impressive graphic quality with practical fold-out pages. World-class violinist and prominent pedagogue Antje Weithaas acted as a consultant for this edition and carefully supplemented Dont?s original marking.

per violino - Edizione critica di Italo Vescovo-The Caprice d?Adieu (autograph unknown) is appended to Eduard Eliason?s Six Caprices Caractéristiques pour le Violon Op. 12 which was published in Mayence by B. Schott in 1833. This piece which Paganini dedicated to Eliason is part of a series ofcompositions for violin solo that have been widely ignored by both performers and scholars of the great Genoese musician. It is a composition whose size and structure (A-B-A with two refrains) follows the pattern of some of his Capricci Op. 1 but unlike these proper studies the Caprice d?adieu is lighter and more lively in character. Although not as brilliant musically as the Capricci it still contains some original musical ideas mostly articulated in two parts with a few complextechnical passages and a central contrasting section featuring different dynamics and a range of chords and trills. This critical edition is based on the first edition and is collated with the most important nineteenth and twentieth-century editions.

Par SAURET EMILE. Émile Sauret, violin virtuoso, teacher and composer, was admired by some of the greatest composers of his time, including Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bruch, Wagner, Grieg and Mahler. He gave numerous concerts with Liszt, Rubinstein, and Moszkowski, and often played duets with Sarasate. He is predominantly remembered for the fiendishly difficult cadenza he composed to Paganini?s first violin concerto. Sauret?s 24 Etudes Caprices for solo violin are a substantial virtuoso journey through every major and minor key. Written while he was a professor of violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London, they are notable for the exceptional variety of filigree detail and variation in nuance, dynamic, fingering, bowing and phrasing, creating etudes far more substantial than is typical in this genre. Unavailable since their first publication early in the 20th century, the Etudes Caprices are edited by leading violinist and Sauret specialist, Nazrin Rashidova, who has made the first complete recording of the Etudes Caprices, performing them on Sauret?s own Stradivarius. Using the original Simrock edition as a basis, this edition supplements Sauret?s original bowings and fingerings with Rashidova?s own suggestions. An extensive preface gives further insights into performance and contextualizes the life of the composer. / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Violon

Well known for his style of bowing his splendid tone and the clearness of his execution French violinist teacher and composer Rodolphe Kreutzer (1766-1831) composed nineteen Violin concertos and forty operas during his life time and is perhaps best known for his 42 Études or Capriccios 1796. Born in Versailles Kreutzer was initially taught by his German father who was a musician in the royal chapel with later lessons from Anton Stamitz. He quickly rose to fame as a Violinist appearing as a soloist until 1810. In 1798 when at Vienna in the service of the French ambassador Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte (later King ofSweden and Norway) Kreutzer the made the aquaintance of Beethoven and became the dedicatee of his Violin Sonata No. 9 Op. 47 (1803). Kreutzer however never played the work declaring it unplayable and incomprehensible. From 1795 until 1826 Kreutzer taught at the Conservatoire de Paris where he became co-author of the Conservatoire's Violin method with Pierre Rode and Pierre Baillot. He was also leader of the Paris Opera for a time. This volume contains Kreutzer's 42 Études which are to this day considered fundamental studies for student Violinists.

This large format edition (25.5 x 32.5cm) is the first to include all 24 of Paganini's Contradanze Inglesi and Caprices.A coherent group of works which require the highest degree of technical expertise since their publication in 1817 the Caprices have remained the defining milestone of Violin technique.Bärenreiter?s scholarly-critical edition is based on the autograph and early prints from various European publishers. The original beaming and articulation have been maintained thereby setting this new edition apart from the many publications of the last 200 years which incorporated changes andemendations by famous Violinists. In addition to the daunting Caprices this is the first time that the 24 Contradanze Inglesi for solo Violin have been published. These simple pieces are each 16 measures in length and exploit various techniques thus providing a wonderful addition to the solo Violin repertoire. This unique edition offers a spacious layout allowing plenty of room to add personal fingering and bowing. A historical introduction in English and German discusses the genesis of the works and traces their influence on Violin virtuosos. A source description and critical commentary are also included.

The compositions by Jacques Pierre Joseph Rode (1774-1830) especially his violin concertos and the caprices in this edition have been very popular among violinists to this day. The caprices have taken on a permanent place in the solo violin literature next to those by Kreutzer Dont Wieniawski or Paganini since they are invaluable for a sound technical and musical training. What gives this edition its special value is that the renowned violin teacher Max Rostal wrote preparatory exercises for each of the 24 caprices which are tailor-made to match methodologically exactly the content of the exercise of the respective caprice.

In Forme Of Etudes, In All 24 Keys. 24 Etudes-Caprices Op. 41 by Delphin Alard (1815-1888) are excellent study material. Alard, the violin teacher of Sasasate, composed these studies in the 24 keys. Due to their musical variety, melodic beauty and cantabile voice leading, they are much more than technical studies; they might be described as character pieces in the best sense. The studies meet the two demands principally made on this genre: to both cover specifically certain technical tasks and be appealing as a music piece so that the musician likes to play them. Contenu - C major: playing three and four-part chords - playing in high positions on the G string - A minor: string-crossing - shifting with the left arm - spiccato bowing - G major: alternating double-stopping (melodic line)-solo line - E minor: cantabile melodic line - ornamentation - D major: double-stopping - harmonics - ricochet bowing - B minor: consistent legato bowing - expressive melodic line alternating with accompanying figures-A major: double-stopping (mainly in sixths) - three-part chords - ricochet bowing - F minor: legato study - E major: double-stopping (mainly in thirds) - C minor: playing a melody on one string - tremolo - B major: waltzes- lively dance-like patterns - G minor: ornamenting notes - long legato bowing - Gb major: legato string-crossing - Eb minor: lightness and elegance of tone - staccato - Db major: dotted rhythms - Bb minor: alternating solo melodic line- double-stopping - Ab major: Caprice for bringing out tone quality when playing legato - F minor: restless tied notes - lyrical lines in the middle section - Eb major: continuous tremolo accompanying figures - C minor: ricochet bowing - legato string-crossing - Bb major: alternating solo line- double-stopping - G minor: double-stopping with syncopations - F major: double-stopping dotted notes in horn-fifths - D minor: Bolero in virtuoso style - double-stopping - staccato bowing - lyrical middle section

Published in early 1806 Kreutzer?s ?40 Études ou Caprices? for Violin there are 42 today are the product of his years-long employment at the Conservatoire de Paris and are the most comprehensive collection of studies from his quill. Their systematic and complete reappraisal of essential Violin technique make them an indispensable tool of the trade for every serious student of the Violin (conservatory level). In the intervening two centuries numerous reprints by various publishers followed the Parisian first edition frequently adapted by famous soloists and teachers. Just a few years after the first edition Kreutzer published a completerevision of this standard work in which he exchanged or heavily altered etudes. This second version of the collection forms the basis for our Urtext edition which nevertheless presents the variants from the early edition as well. The virtuoso and sought-after Violin pedagogue Ingolf Turban acted as a consultant for this edition and furnished it with modern markings so that it provides an ideal foundation for contemporary Violin instruction.
