Tomas Luis de Victoria was the most famous composer of the 16th century in Spain, and one of the most important composers of the Counter-Reformation, along with Palestrina and Orlando di Lasso. Victoria was not only a composer, but also an accomplished organist and singer. However, he preferred the life of a composer to that of a performer. He is sometimes known as the Spanish Palestrina because he may have been taught by Palestrina.

The Choral Collection Psalms contains over 50 settings for mixed unaccompanied choir from six centuries. It is a true treasure-trove of compositions in various styles and levels of difficulty: with some unknown new discoveries and some classics of the choral literature, the selection will enrich both worship and concerts. The 150 psalms of the Old Testament express rejoicing, joy, confidence, but also lament, grief, anger, and even doubt. The psalms are present throughout Christianity and Judaism to this day, and are sung worldwide in countless settings. The Choral Collection Psalms displays the whole stylistic and linguistic variety ranging from contemplative, simple Anglican chant through Russian Orthodox homophony to virtuoso motets with jazzy echoes. The linguistic spectrum is equally broad: English, French, German (some with added singable English translation), Estonian, Icelandic and, of course, Latin psalm settings are represented, as well as works in Church Slavonic and Hebrew (both accompanied by transliterations and a singable German text). The foreword (German / English) offers many hints regarding the performance of the psalm settings, and a detailed index will help with choosing appropriate pieces for the liturgical occasion according to the Anglican, Protestant, or Catholic calendar. Over the last ten years editor Stefan Schuck has performed two psalm compositions every week in his NoonSong series in Berlin. From the resulting 800 works, he has selected the most interesting compositions arranged according to level of difficulty. The choral director's volume includes a CD with recordings of selected works, sung by sirventes and conducted by the editor, which will help with learning and rehearsing the repertoire. over 50 psalm settings from six centuries for worship and concert use stylistic variety and mixed levels of difficulty: from Anglican Chant to virtuoso motets for four-part mixed choir, some with organ/piano accompaniment transliterations and German singing texts help with practising cross-cultural repertoire liturgical classification of all settings for Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican lectionary includes many unknown jewels such as Boze, Boze moj (Cesar Cui), Jauschew be seser eljaun (David Rubin), and Schubert's setting of Psalm 23 in the first Hebrew version CD recording (sirventes berlin, cond. The first part of Ernst Pepping's Choralsuite is a setting of Martin Luther's three-verse hymn, written to replace the Latin Credo in the Reformation German mass. Luther also adapted Catholic statements ('unam sanctam catholicam ecclesiam' was changed to 'die ganz Christenheit auf Erden' [the whole Christian church on earth]) as well as incorporating a number of his own theological convictions. Pepping orientates his highly contrapuntal choral texture to the vocal style of the 16th and 17th centuries and uses traditional church modes.

O Radix Jesse by Polish composer Pawe ukaszewski , is arranged here for unaccompanied SSAA Chorus with divisions. Pawe ukaszewski is part of a younger generation of Polish composers who specialise in sacred and choral music. After studying composition and receiving two Ph.Ds, ukaszewski 's work has been performed throughout Europe and the rest of the world. This composition, O Radix Jesse is a setting of the Magnificant antiphons used in Christian advent and Catholic Mass. The haunting harmonies created by the unaccompanied chorus in this composition are sure to remain with audiences for a long time, having been intricately crafted by this master ofspiritual music. Please note that the lyrics are in Latin. David Lindley, in the September 2015 issue of the Organists' Review, writes that ukaszewski's music is often compared to that of Gorecki, Part and John Tavener, and this piece manifests the family resemblance..

Mass - for unison choir (SSA) and organ by Bendt Fabricius. From the preface: In the 1980s, I was an organist at Mosede Church, and I was so lucky here to have a talented girls' choir. This Mass for equal-voiced choir and organ is composed for my girls in Mosede. The Mass takes its textual starting point in the Roman Catholic High Mass in Latin with its five fixed liturgical links, Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. In my fair, I have chosen to translate the texts into Danish, which means that the work, both by rehearsal and performance, has the special presence that an immediate understanding of a text will always evoke. The five rates can be listed either together or separately. The movements have different degrees of difficulty, so that Kyrie and Credo are the simplest to perform, while the other three movements make greater demands, both in terms of melody, rhythm and harmonics. A major challenge in the performance of the mass will be the obligatory organ voice, which constitutes a concerted element in relation to the choir voices. The organ voice is generally accompanying, but occasionally performs solo in a way that challenges and contrasts the choir voices. Bendt Fabricius 2018.

Preface I Programme Note TENEBRAE was commissioned by the Turku (Abo) Music Festival and composed for Finnish guitarist Timo Korhonen, whom I had known and admired for a long time. Timo gave a brillant premiere of TENEBRAE in Turku on August 13, 1991 and has played it several times since then. The title is Latin, and means darkness or gloom, but it also refers to the Roman Catholic matins and lauds services in Holy Week. These are held as dusk falls, and the idea is that the sixteen candles that are burning at the beginning of the service are gradually extinguished until, after sixteenprayers, the church is in darkness. The same development is carried through inTENEBRAE by musical means, so that we have not yet had to resort to acandlelit setting - although it is by no means out of the question. The piece makes extensive use of the guitar's properties for revealing quiet, intimate feelings, although naturally in a work of this scope there is contrasting material included. Jouni Kaipainen, 1993.
