I remember the waltz music playing as the announcement came Couples only, or All skate. Years later in New York City, I awakened from sleep one morning with the theme of this waltz in my ears. It was so cheerful and corny that I asked myself You’ve got to be kidding me, where did this melody come from? I realized it was my original. I notated it immediately, and a few weeks later I added the second musical theme and named it Central Park Waltz. It reminds me of the skating rinks that I have enjoyed over the years.

The theme of this work is the history of the town of Grafenrheinfeld (Bavaria, Germany) in the twentieth century, a town that is now mainly associated with its nuclear plant. The German word for this is Kraftwerk, which can be divided into the words Kraft (power) and Werk (work). In this composition, it is a metaphor for the ?work? that can be realised through ?power? in a negative way (war) and in a positive way (reconstruction). Musically speaking, power also plays an important role in this work, as opposed to vulnerability, the sense of loss and the insecurity about the lost identity. Based on the text of Lied der Franke ?Kraftwerk? is a powerfully descriptive work thatwill add energy to any concert. De geschiedenis van Grafenrheinfeld (Beieren, Duitsland) in de twintigste eeuw vormt het thema van dit werk. Deze plaats wordt nu voornamelijk geassocieerd met zijn kerncentrale. Het Duitse woord hiervoor is Kraftwerk, datje kunt onderverdelen in de woorden Kraft (kracht) en Werk (werk). In deze compositie is het dan ook een metafoor voor het ‘werk’ dat door ‘kracht’ wordt gerealiseerd, in negatieve zin (oorlog) en in positieve zin (wederopbouw). A Bluegrass Overture was commissioned by Gabriel Wooley and funded by a grant from Leslie and Cathy Anderson for the Central Kentucky Concert Band to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2016. This energetic overture opens with an introduction loosely based on 'bluegrass' chords before a slower, legato chorale appears in the clarinets and flutes. This is short-lived and soon a new mood is introduced, based on a repeated-note accompaniment. This leads to the main theme, heavily syncopated with bluesy inflections. A central section features a cantabile melody, which changes key frequently, before the main theme reappears, leading to a triumphal presentation of the earlierchorale melody. A Bluegrass Overture is geschreven voor de Central Kentucky Concert Band ter gelegenheid van hun veertigjarig bestaan in 2016. De opdracht komt van Gabriel Wooley en is gefinancierd door een gift van Leslie en Cathy Anderson. Belvedere is a beautiful solo for trumpet or flugel horn and is partly taken from City Scapes, a concert work that was inspired by Central Park in New York City. The title Belvedere refers to ‘Belvedere Castle’, erected in 1869, and radiates the peaceful atmosphere of this place. Belvedere is een prachtig solostuk voor trompet of bugel dat afkomstig is uit City Scapes, een concertwerk dat is ge nspireerd op Central Park in New York City. De titel Belvedere verwijst naar het Belvedere Castle, een kasteel dat er in 1869 werd gebouwd de muziek verklankt de rust die deze plek uitstraalt. Belvedere ist ein wunderschönes Solostück für Trompete oder Flügelhorn. Es handelt sich um einen Teil aus dem Konzertstück City Scapes, das vom Central Park in New York City inspiriert wurde.
