Children's Corner: N. 5 The Little Shepherd (le Petit Berger)

This volume contains several of Debussy's best known and most-admired compositions including some of his most brilliant works for piano: the technically challenging 'Etudes' the witty and appealing 'Children's Corner' and the sparkling 'Images Book II' as well as other intriguing lesser-known works. Pianists will enjoy the extraordinary diversity of these pieces and their rare often surprising musical effects. All of the works included have been reprinted from authoritative French editions.

Arranged in 2011 it was then premiered by the Radio KamerFilharmonie conducted by Michael Schønwandt in Utrecht in February2012. Debussy’s six movement work for piano has been cherished the world over for its whimsical charm and the way in which they are evocative of childhood. Abrahamsen expands on these traits in his orchestration of the six little masterpieces; be it the mystical heaviness of Jimbo’s Lullaby the icy pirouettes in The Snow is Dancing or the buoyant ending: Golliwogg’s Cakewalk

for Clarinet and String Quartet - Score-David Schiff created this arrangement for Clarinet (doubling Bass Clarinet) and String Quartet of Debussy's suite of piano pieces entitled Children's Corner. La suite de six de mouvement de Debussy pour piano solo, Le Coin des Enfants (L. 113), a été publié en 1908. Elle est dédiée à la fille de Debussy, Claude-Emma (connu comme 'Chou-Chou'), qui avait trois ans à l'époque. Les pièces ne sont pas destinés à être joué par des enfants, mais plutôt qu'ils sont destinés à être évocateur de l'enfance et certains des jouets de la collection de jouets Claude-Emma.
