In his Christmas cantata Allein Gott in der Hoh sei Ehr (To God, on high alone be praise), Telemann celebrates the birth of Jesus as a symbol of the reconciliation with God and as a message of salvation for a sinful humanity. The cantata makes provision for a competent baritone soloist who sings two challenging arias, as well as a four-part choir which provides the framework for the composition with two unadorned chorale verses and, as a climax, intones the Christmas paean from Luke 2:14 Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe (Praise to God in his high heaven). In the first aria, the muted sounds of the optional high trumpet accompany the words O Freudengetone, wie lieblich, wie schone (O music of blessing! How lovely, how pleasing), evoking a gentle Christmas luster. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3911900.

From the New Integrity Anthem Series, comes a song arranged by David Wise and Orchestrated by David Shipps, Oh Praise (The Only One). At first plaintive and ethereal, the track has an almost ancient, timeless quality to it that cradles the listener with its soothing sounds before opening the way to a stately, yet joyful and triumphant experience. The song invites us to Praise Him, who shines brighter than ten-thousand suns, providing a perfect bridge between contemporary praise and worship and a more regal, majestic and traditional song structure.

Howard Helvey is known for his modern approach to hymnody. His melodies have breadth and grandeur, and his accompaniments carry the loftiness of a high cathedral. Yet his music sounds like it was meant for the congregation. Truly a hymn of praise it can fit most any season. Easy to medium in difficulty.

Songs have forever been at the heart of God’s Church. They help build our faith, tell of the rich, full, grace of our Savior, and speak of our devotion and allegiance to Him; songs express our thoughts and feelings and needs in a way that mere words never can. Songs allow us to lift our voice to declare that He alone is worthy of our praise, He alone is the one true God and King, and He alone has provided a way to salvation for a lost and dying world. The songs included in this new Word Music & Church Resources Choral Collection are Songs the Church Loves to Sing! Across decades, styles and sounds have changed, but the impact songs have on God’s people is undeniable and unmistakable. Through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, a lexicon of Christian songs took their place beside the time-honored hymns of the church, songs that became the voice of new generations of believers, songs that the church still loves to sing. This Choral Collection, arranged and orchestrated by Marty Parks, is a tribute to those songs. We hope and believe this church music resource will find its place in your church music library and will be used as a tool of outreach and ministry to proclaim your love and adoration for the Lord, giving voice to people everywhere; a voice with which to keep singing these Songs the Church Loves to Sing!

Boldly triumphant, this Easter anthem features new music and text by two of this century’s premier church writers. It opens with brilliant figures in the accompaniment and a majestic choral acclamation. The second verse is more reflective, recalling the crucifixion. The tempo quickens as the fanfare returns, heralding the entrance of Beethoven’s beloved Ode to Joy. Shifting again in tempo and in key, the final verse resounds with victorious grandeur and rising alleluias. (From the cantata Forsaken. SATB – 55/1112L; SAB – 55/1113L.).
