BachScholar Editions Vol. 86: BACH MEETS RAGTIME: 10 Four-Part Chorales Arranged (Volume 2) (41 pages) was born out of classic ragtime and related style improvisations on selected four-part chorales by J.S. Bach. These arrangements transform Bach’s short chorales into exciting and idiomatic concert pieces for piano while fully retaining the chorales’ original melodies and harmonies. Styles encountered in this collection include two-step rags, cake walk, waltz, etude, cool swing, march macabre, and hoedown. The ten pieces have been assembled in a strategic order so that they may be played in succession as an effective concert cycle. In addition, they may be played singly or in pairs and groups as the performer sees fit. A complete performance lasts approximately 36 minutes. This collection is ideal for piano students, teachers, and concert artists who seek fresh, new, and creative material for study and performance. Keyboard/Theory Published by: BachScholar.

Composer Rudgers here draws a delightful fantasy treatment from the mid-1800's folk song about grizzled old mountain man Dan Tucker. Opening aggressively with a short fanfare based on the main melodic motive of the song, the work soon segues into a tender, beautifully harmonized ballad. This lyrical section gives way to a hoedown replete with a foot-stomping, hand-clapping section that is fun for all players. Don't miss this highly creative and entertaining take on a classic piece of Americana!

Based on the classic fiddle tune Goin to Boston, this is a great hoedown number for strings. It comes complete with several special techniques found in all fiddle music, including bluesy note slides, shuffle bowings, hand slaps, and foot stomps (specific performance directions for each are included in Frank's score notes). Some easy double stops are also included, but Frank advises that they be assigned only to advanced students and incorporated gradually as players become more familiar with the music.

Imagine Tchaikovsky on a vacation trip that was arranged by a really, really bad travel agent. That, in a “nutshellâ€, describesThe Nutty Nutcracker. This humorous style parody of what may arguably be some of the best-known melodies on the planetis a certain crowd pleaser. Everybody knows the tunes, but not like THIS! The Arabian Tango; The Chinese Hoedown; TheWaltz of the Mariachi Flowers; The Dance of the Klezmer Clarinets and MORE. You get the idea! Great fun for everyone. You’llwant to use Mike Hannickel’s A Nutty Nutcracker again and again.Whoops!
