Invictus: A Passion addresses one of the world’s most powerful stories through the lens of the modern world. The texts, written or inspired by women, describe not only human suffering and persecution but also the human capacity for love and humility in the face of tyranny. Composer Howard Goodall is uniquely suited to bring these texts to life with music of emotional clarity and sweeping force. This excerpt is scored for soprano solo, SATB choir and piano. This fourth movement of the larger work is inspired by the extraordinary story of Irena Sendler née Krzyżanowska, a Polish nurse and head of Å»egota, the Polish Council to Aid Jews in the Second World War, whose personal interventions saved the lives of approximately 2,500 Jewish children in the Warsaw Ghetto, smuggling them to safety, acts of humanitarian bravery that eventually caused her arrest and torture by the Gestapo. She is honoured as Righteous Amongst the Nations at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem. The Latin texts of this movement are taken from the Book of Lamentations (“My eye hath run down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people. My enemies have chased me and caught me like a bird, without cause…â€) and from Psalm 142, the Old Testament being the meeting-point of Sendler’s Catholicism and the Jewish tradition of those whose lives she saved. Duration 6:19.

Apart from numerous publications in the field of music education, the music teacher and composer Hermann Regner (1928-2008) contributed considerably to the brass repertoire, such as material for wind orchestra and wind band. Influenced by his studies with Carl Orff, he paid special attention to the fusion of instrumental education and contemporary music. A matter of particular concern for him was to write practical, easily playable new music for children, young people and amateur musicians - music that takes the technical competence of beginners into account and motivates them to concern themselves with new sounds, rhythms and playing techniques. 'All begins well' is a small collection of easy pieces for trombone with piano accompaniment. The five short pieces are a perfect addition to instrument lessons and 'Jugend musiziert'. The pieces are very melodic, using simple keys (F major, B flat major, E flat major) which are easy to play by the trombone, and they cover a compass from B flat to E flat1.

1st perf: Douglas Mitchell, Clare Hall, Cambridge, 26 October 2002 Morgan Hayes's Totem, for B flat clarinet, is a short, single melodic line that in its brief duration challenges players of Grades 7 or 8 standard or above to encompass widely contrasted dramatic and lyrical moods within the primitive vision of its title. The composer had no specific ethnological source in mind when composing this piece. Rather, his aim was to suggest the complex rhythms and rituals of tribal life, remote in time from the sophistications of the modern world, but in spirit closer perhaps to our own than we might care to imagine.

The Heil PR77D is a professional quality dynamic microphone for use in commercial broadcast, podcasting, and studio or home recording. It is perfect for any application that requires a smooth, flat response over a wide frequency range, excellent transient response, great speech articulation, and low intermodulation distortion (IMD). The PR77D achieves its exceptional performance via a large, 1-inch, low-mass voice coil encompassed by a powerful magnet structure using a mixture of neodymium, iron, and boron. Special attention has been paid to the phasing plug assembly to provide exceptional 180-degree, off-axis rear rejection of over -40 dB. Simultaneously, the front pattern allows the user to move about freely in front of the element with no change in response. Unique to the PR77D is a two-position switch allowing the user to select optimal response frequency characteristics between Voice and Music applications. The Voice position rolls the audio off at 120Hz at -6 dB per octave, whereas the Music position removes the filter and uses the entire audio spectrum of 60Hz to 16kHz. The PR77D is designed to be used exclusively with booms or bases and has standard 5/8″ – 27 microphone stand threads.
