For the Easy Concert Pieces series, the experienced piano teacher Monika Twelsiek compiled pleasant, easy piano pieces for beginners and published them in two volumes in progressive order. The third volume is in preparation.The two volumes are intended to complement a piano tutorial method and are particularly suitable for performance at auditions at music schools, for examinations and for competitions. They offer varied repertoire in a broad selection of pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern eras.Volume 1 (ED 22547) can already be used by beginners, containing pieces in the five-note range and easy pieces spanning a single octave. Other criteria for selection are simple rhythms and very easy chords. Crossing the thumb underneath, playing several parts together and pedal use are not yet required.Volume 2 (ED 22548) contains pieces with an extended range of two octaves. Crossing the thumb under, pedal use, simple polyphony and three- or four-part chords all feature here, as do simple ornaments, cantabile playing and differentiating between melody and accompaniment. / Piano

24 Easy Pieces From 5 Centuries Using Half To 3Rd Position. The 'Easy Concert Pieces' series presents a varied selection of easy concert pieces for double bass and piano from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods through to the modern era. To facilitate choosing individual pieces for performance and auditions at music schools, competitions or examinations these pieces have been ordered according to level of musical and technical difficulty. Book 1 (ED 22551) contains pieces in half and first position. Pieces in each position and some using position changes are presented from each era. Simple techniques such as portato, staccato and legato bowing are introduced along with pizzicato, using rudimentary dynamics ranging from piano to forte, crescendo and decrescendo and simple phrasing. The pieces selected here are varied in character with memorable tunes, a few different time signatures and simple rhythms. / Niveau : Facile / Recueil / Contrebasse et Piano

It is not always easy to find appropriate competition pieces for young Cellists it is even more difficult if the focus is on works after 1980 the publication of this piece is therefore very welcome.Walter Ernst Haberl a successful writer for guitar wrote 'Latin for Alex' especially for the Austrian Youth Music Competition Prima la Musica. This music is demanding requiring a good modern technique and presents an attractive challenge to young string players in their second to third years. 'Latin for Alex' will also go down well with the adjudicators and the audience.

French oboist organist teacher and composer Charles Colin (1832-1881) studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he won many prizes. Colin then went on to lead a successful musical career and his wealth of experience led to the composition of Famous Solos for Competitions which remain highly regarded to this day. Significantly the entire compilation of Famous Solos for Competitions was performed 1983 by Oboe students at the University of Washington. The first solo Colin's Opus 33 is challenging for the advanced oboist. The work addresses many technicalities including complex rhythms a range ofarticulation variations in performance directions dynamics and time signatures ornamentation and wide range among other aspects. For all aspiring advanced Oboe players Colin's Famous Solos for Competitions is an essential addition to the repertoire providing excellent audition and competition pieces.

Thierry Caens' Short Studies In The Keys for Trumpet. I am very happy that Hamelle is publishing the collection I have been planning to produce for several years. This collection includes works written or arranged for myself as well as a representative selection of my own compositions (original works or arrangements). It should be of interest to all kinds of groupings from the most standard (Trumpet and Piano Trumpet and Organ Trumpet and Orchestra Wind Quintet Trombone Quartet) to the most unusual (Cornet and Brass Quintet large Brass Ensembles Trumpet and Trombone with Organ) and it of course also includes teaching material(studies exercises competition pieces). My concern has been to present useful new pieces but above all to awaken and develop the musical sense of brass instrumentalists. – Thierry Caens

Kenneth Downie’s work was commissioned by Brass Band Treize Etoiles for performance at the 2013 Swiss National Brass Band Championships where it was conducted by James Gourlay. The title is a reference to Percy Grainger’s popular Handel in the Strand and is indicative of the witty and theatrical nature of the music which is more playful than conventional competition pieces and as such offers different challenges to brass bands as well as beingthoroughly entertaining for audiences. Kenneth Downie is one of the most respected and experienced brass band composers. His music has been widely performed and published throughout the brass band world since the 1960s.
