This facsimile of an original by Isidore Bertheaume is part of our French classical music collection. Edition : Paris, l'Auteur, 1787. The orchestra is modest in size: strings, 2 oboes, 2 horns. The solo parts may be played by the orchestra,s section leaders. The second symphonie concertante adds to the two solo violins either a solo viola or solo horn. For this project, which led to a concert performance at th Abbaye aux Dames, a full score was prepared and has been added to the facsimile. Preface by the students of the formation superieure aux metiers de l'orchestre des musiques classiques et romantiques - Abbaye-aux-Dames-Saintes: biography of Bertheaume, the symphonies of Bertheaume at the Concert Spirituel, hints for performance. The Missa pastoralis in C, published here for the first time, dates from about 1808. It belongs to a cycle of sacred pieces, a ,,Cursus sacro-harmonicus, which Ryba planned as Ordinarium and Proprium settings for all the Sundays and feast days of the church year. The Missa pastoralis in C is a pastoral Mass for the matutinal service at Christmas. As in the Missa Pastoralis in B flat, in this Mass Ryba makes use of concertante instruments: trumpet and a bassoon, an instrument seldom employed solistically in a Mass, but which gives this work a unique character. Of the 19 Masses by Dittersdorf which have been handed down, the present Mass, which is being published for the first time, enjoyed a special popularity during the composer's lifetime and it was even performed for the coronation of emperor Franz II in the Frankfurt Cathedral. This solemn, prestigious Mass shows evidence of choral movements in traditional contrapuntal church style as well solo parts with a modern, cantabile character. In addition, the Gloria includes a lengthy virtuosic violin solo, which also lends the work a concertante character (Dittersdorf was a professional violinist).
