On the CD that comes with the book you will first hear the piano accompaniment alone, followed by the demo version with both clarinet and piano. It is of course more instructive and enjoyable to play with a live accompanist if you can, using the piano part that is also included. Pietro Nardini was the most important pupil of Tartini regarding both violin playing and composition. Like his teacher, he attached special significance to the beauty of sound and the -suitability for singing, as is shown by reports of his contemporaries. Leopold Mozart, for example, wrote in one of his letters that he had heard a certain Nardini and that there could not be heard anything more beautiful in the tonal beauty, purity, harmony and in the singable taste. The two concertos in A major and F major consist of three movements with the traditional tempo order quick-slow-quick, each movement giving the soloist the opportunity to play a solo cadence.

F.A. Rossler (Antonio Rosetti), a Bohemian by birth, worked as court music director in Ludwigslust/Mecklenburg. He wrote 14 flute concertos altogether the most important of which is the concerto G major, Op. 14. The expanded head movement combines the sonata form with the ritornello technique of the concerto grosso. Right at the beginning, the basses of the Mannheimer-Walzermotiv make it clear that Rossler knows how to use effectively the orchestral technique of his time. Despite all motivic and thematic as well as harmonic abundance, -Rossler achieves in this concerto an almost natural musical unity.

The Concertino was first reviewed by the critic Gottfried Wilhelm Fink (1783-1846) in the Leipzig Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung (AMZ), issue no. 38, September 1832. The critic discussed the work in detail, calling it a milestone of the trombone literature, ... its public performance should thus be determined by only true masters. The rest, however, may wish to utilize it, in silence, that is not overheard by expectant listeners, to strive with it to strengthen their powers....The Concertino's premiere can be dated to 1828, with Queisser himself as soloist, and the composer conducting. Queisser repeatedly performed the Concertino up to 1843. The work was published under catalogue number 5227 in 1832 by Breitkopf & Hartel. Sometime in the 1940s the work was lost to sight and no performances known to come from then. Together with the Concertino, Op. 4, later composed by Ferdinand David, Muller's contribution to this genre is among the most often played and most demanding of the trombone literature. Handel wrote two versions of this work: as concerto for organ and orchestra, Op. 4 No. 5, and as sonata for alto recorder and basso continuo, Op. 1 No. 11. In the early 18th century, it was common practice to replace a solo instrument with another one. This arrangement is therefore equivalent to an original work since each note in the score is an original one by Handel except for the realization of the basso continuo, of course, though this, too, follows Handel's original organ part.
