These three concertos may be performed not only with a large orchestra including wind instruments but also a quattro that is with two violins one viola and violoncello. They will be issued early in April of this year (1783).' As this advertisement shows it was Mozart's intention to keep the accompaniment part flexible in his piano concertos K.413-5 and as we know from a letter Mozart wrote to his father inK.449 as well. In addition to orchestral forces it is also possible to use a chamber setting with string instruments one to a part. This chamber music edition accommodates this option thereby enriching Mozart's charming chamber music with piano. These editions of Mozart's Piano Concertos are based on the Urtext editions published in the New Mozart Edition. In the present arrangement for two pianos the solo Part - as well as the strings - are unchanged and thus identical with the version in the NMA. The piano arrangement adheres to the original orchestral score. Für Klavier und Orchester-Johann Joseph Rösler (1771 1812) was a composer conductor and pianist who was active in Prague and Vienna. Later he was in the service of Prince Franz Joseph von Lobkowitz. His Piano Concerto No. 2 in E-flat major of 1803 is a fitting companion to the piano concertos of Beethoven; indeed his first Piano Concerto in D major was mistakenly attributed to Beethoven until 1925.Now Rösler?s second Piano Concerto is appearing in print for the first time. This is due to editor Alena Hönigová discovering and identifying an autograph score which is the only preserved source in the Prague Conservatory archive. In this Urtext edition Hönigová takes into account the distinctivefeatures of Rösler?s handwriting and the division of parts in the score as befits the performance practice of his day.

Composed at the end of 1785 Mozart?s Piano Concerto in E-flat major forms a group of three with the two famous concerti in A major K. 488 and in C minor K. 491 which he completed in March of the following year. What they all have in common is Mozart?s inclusion of Clarinets in the Orchestra for the first time. In this he succeeded to particularly impressive effect with the lyrical passages in the slow sections of the E-flat-major concerto which was well received by the audience at the first performance. Indeed his father Leopold reports in a letter that Mozart ?had to repeat? the Andante immediately. G.Henle Publishers is issuing this concerto undeservedly overshadowed by its famous siblings in a handy study edition in full score; a Piano reduction is in preparation.
