Concerto For Bassoon and Orchestra. The Concerto for Bassoon was the first solo wind concerto penned by the major Czech composer Jirí Pauer (1919-2007). It was composed in 1949 and after some re-working the final version was premiered in 1952 by Czech bassoonist Karel Bidlo and the Czech Philharmonic. Although technically very demanding, the concerto is written with a detailed knowledge of the bassoon's character and possibilities, making full use of the instrument's wide range of expression.This edition adopts the musical text of the first print from 1967 (Supraphon), the solo part has been revised. A Preface on performance practice has been supplied by Ondrej Sindelár, bassoonist of the Czech Philharmonic.

in B-Dur / Bb Major-German composer Carl Stamitz wrote more than 60 concertos for Violin Viola Viola d'amore Cello Clarinet Basset Horn Flute Bassoon and other instruments. Some of the Clarinet and Viola concertos that Stamitz composed are considered to be among the finest available from the period. Stylistically Stamitz's music is not too far removed from the works of the young Mozart or those of Haydn's middle period. The Clarinet Concerto No. 3 was likely written around 1785 which was the same year that Stamitz was appointed the lead Violin of the Duc de Noailles in Paris. The style of thisconcerto reflects the usual orchestration found in the mid-eighteenth century where most of the important musical material was given to the strings while the winds were left to fill in the harmony. Carl Stamitz's style is pleasant and free-flowing as nicely illustrated in this concerto.

Violin Violoncello and Orchestra-Handel's Concerto Grosso In G major Op.6/1 HWV 319 is scored for 2 solo Violins solo Cello 2 Oboes Bassoon Strings and Basso continuo. The Concerti Grossi Op.6 HWV 319-330 are 12 concerti for solo instruments (usually Violins and Cello) accompanied by a four-part string orchestra and Cembalo continuo. Originally published in 1739 they were written to be played during performances of Handel's oratorios and odes and are amongst the finest examples in the genre of Baroque Concerto Grosso.

Haydn’s Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in C major (Hob. VIIb:1) was probably composed between 1762 and 1765 when he was already director of music to Prince Esterh zy. It may have been writtenfor the cellist in the court Orchestra Joseph Weigl (1740-1820) for whom Haydn most likely also wrote the solo Cello parts in his early symphonies. Weigl was a member of the Esterh zy ensemble from 1761 to 1769 andthereafter served as a principle cellist in various Viennese ensembles.The concerto was rediscovered by Oldrich Pulkert who in 1961 found an eighteenth-century manuscript copy (Prag National Museum Fonds Radenin) andpublished the concerto in 1962. Previously the existence of this piece was known only through Haydn’s entry in his private list of works (the so-called ‘Entwurf’ [‘draft’] catalogue).The Orchestral setting ismodest: besides the Strings (with a non-obligato Bassoon doubling the Bass part) there are two Oboes and two Horns which are reserved almost exclusively for the tutti passages.This Piano reduction is based on the text givenin the complete edition of Haydn’s works as edited by the Joseph Haydn Institute Cologne (Joseph Haydn Werke Series III Vol.2 with Preface and Critical Report published by G. Henle Verlag Munich 1981). The Cello partin the Piano reduction is identical to that of the complete edition and thus follows the Prague source as closely as possible even in the expression marks and in certain peculiarities of notation.

Concerto and ripieno part-Haydn's Symphony No.8 is the final piece in his triptych on the times of the day consisting of the symphonies Le Matin Le Midi and Le Soir (Hoboken I:6-8). The cycle originated in 1761 on a commission from Haydn's patron Prince Anton Esterházy. Whether the Prince was hoping for a counterpart to Vivaldi's famous concertos on the four seasons or pursued a different idea can no longer be determined. It was doubtless the purpose of these concertante symphonies to present to a select audience the Prince's chamber ensemble which had been assembled or expanded that spring as well as its new conductor. The pieces are laid out on a large scale full of pomp andsplendour and the scoring at times divided into thirteen separate parts offers virtually every player an opportunity to display his prowess as a soloist.At that time the Esterházy ensemble was made up of six or seven players of the violin or viola (the seventh was actually retained as a flautist) one player each of the violoncello and violone two oboists doubling on flute two horn players and a bassoonist. This listing includes Haydn himself who conducted the ensemble from the first violinist's desk. Contrary to a widely held belief there was no harpsichord.
