for the Left Hand for Piano and Orchestra Piano reduction and solo part-In 1929 Paul Wittgenstein a pianist and war veteran who lost his right arm in the Great War commissioned Maurice Ravel to write a concerto for him to perform. The result was one of Ravel’s most thrilling compositions and for Wittgenstein the most important of the many works he commissioned over the course of his career.This scholarly-critical edition of Ravel’s Piano Concerto For The Left Hand is based on previously inaccessible and unknown sources. The editor Douglas Woodfull-Harris was able to consult manuscripts in the private library of the Paul Wittgenstein Estate which allowed him to retrace the work’s evolutionfrom Ravel’s autograph working copy to the first printed edition.A source of key importance to our new edition is a handwritten French copy of Ravel’s own Piano reduction (the autograph is inaccessible) that he gave to Wittgenstein to facilitate rehearsing the work. This copy is the sole source reflecting Wittgenstein’s own interpretation and containing his changes to the final cadenza. It also helps us to understand omissions in the first edition of the score as well as the Piano reduction and enabled the editor amongst other things to correct a great many notes which could be found in previous editions including the solo Piano part.The Piano reduction in our edition contains both Ravel’s and Wittgenstein’s fingering. We know this from at least two sets of handwritten parts which were then in circulation.No Piano part has been handed down; indeed the original sets of parts probably omitted the Piano.The soloist presumably studied his part from the first edition of the solo part published with the original performance material in 1808. (The full score did not appear until 1861).The sextetversion deftly integrates the original wind parts into the string texture. The arrangement stands in the tradition of Piano reductions with chamber music accompaniment of the sort which were also made for Mozart’s Piano concertos K.413 to 415 and later for the Chopin concertos.This Urtext edition edited by the renowned Beethoven scholar Jonathan Del Mar presents this arrangement for the first time in print. Le Concerto pour piano n° 21 en do majeur (K. 467) de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart fut composé en 1785, peu de temps après le Concerto pour piano en ré mineur (K. 466).
Alors que le précédent concerto en ré mineur était vif et passionné, celui en do majeur contraste par son calme et sa majesté.
Comme l?ensemble des concertos de forme classique, le Concerto pour piano n° 21 en ut majeur est composé de trois mouvements : Allegro, Andante, Allegro vivace assai (vif ?lent - vif).
L?andante, aux couleurs angéliques, cache une angoisse derrière la vingtaine de modulations qui se succèdent une à une en cent mesures.

Edition for piano two violins viola and violoncello-Edition for piano two violins viola and violoncello (2-piano reduction with 1 each of the string parts) 'Mr. Mozart Kapellmeister wishes to announce to the most worthy public the appearance in print of three of his recently contrived piano concertos. These three concertos may be performed not only with a large orchestra including wind instruments but also a quattro that is with two violins one viola and violoncello. They will be issued early in April of this year (1783).' As this advertisement shows it was Mozart's intention to keep the accompaniment part flexible in his piano concertos K.413-5 and as we know from a letter Mozart wrote to his father inK.449 as well. In addition to orchestral forces it is also possible to use a chamber setting with string instruments one to a part. This chamber music edition accommodates this option thereby enriching Mozart's charming chamber music with piano. These editions of Mozart's Piano Concertos are based on the Urtext editions published in the New Mozart Edition. In the present arrangement for two pianos the solo Part - as well as the strings - are unchanged and thus identical with the version in the NMA. The piano arrangement adheres to the original orchestral score.
