These three concertos may be performed not only with a large orchestra including wind instruments but also a quattro that is with two violins one viola and violoncello. They will be issued early in April of this year (1783).' As this advertisement shows it was Mozart's intention to keep the accompaniment part flexible in his piano concertos K.413-5 and as we know from a letter Mozart wrote to his father inK.449 as well. In addition to orchestral forces it is also possible to use a chamber setting with string instruments one to a part. This chamber music edition accommodates this option thereby enriching Mozart's charming chamber music with piano. These editions of Mozart's Piano Concertos are based on the Urtext editions published in the New Mozart Edition. In the present arrangement for two pianos the solo Part - as well as the strings - are unchanged and thus identical with the version in the NMA. The piano arrangement adheres to the original orchestral score. Mozart composed the majority of his works for solo String Instruments and Orchestra during the years 1773 to 1779. Especially important in this context are the years 1773 and 1775 which witnessed the creation of the five concertos for Violin and Orchestra as well as several single movements for the same scoring. The reasons for this flourish of activity in this domain lie partly in the fact that Mozart who still occupied the post of concertmaster to the Prince-Archbishop was either obliged or inspired to provide such works for special occasions during this long period spent in Salzburg. In Fa Op.X N.5 - Rv 442 F.Vi-1 - Tomo 46 --Vivaldi's Concerto in F RV 433 for Flute Strings and Basso Continuo. Called in both cases 'La tempesta di mare ' the work's opening Allegro has a characteristic thumping unison repeated-note theme with the flute soloist trading short lines in imitation with the orchestral violins in the outer sections and warbling maniacally above the ripieno in the central episodes. The opening closes on a big half cadence and then moves into the quiet central Largo with the flute soloist becalmed in the eye of the storm and haunted by memories and ghosts. The closing Presto opens with a powerful unison theme with the flute soloist performing the first long lyrical lines of the workagainst the thrusting violins and basso continuo.

A craftsman-like and gracefully wrought work in which the middle movement is particularly fine a wistful slow waltz of lovely simplicity which begins and ends with a tranquil dialogue between the two unaccompanied violins. The last movement opens with the only real solo fireworks in the piece - a brilliant chase for the two instruments over steady rhythmic support from the accompanying strings.
