Original composition The composer writes: Consecration is written for the Youth Bells of a church that burned to the ground one fateful night. Through the efforts of its members and staff, the church was rebuilt and then consecrated in May of 1997. It is my hope that this piece reflects not only the initial terror and grief but, most importantly, the eventual triumph, rejoicing and thankgiving of the members of the congregation as they worked through a rebuilding not only of their church but of their faith and spirit..

Together with the Missa brevis in G K. 49 (47d) written at about the same time the work is one of the first Mass settings of the then 12-year-old composer. The first editions of both Masses were published by Breitkopf & Hartel in 1877 within the Complete Edition Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts Werke.

This arrangement for saxophone quartet (SATBar), rather than favoring a soprano solo with accompaniment, strives to include all the players in the music making, particularly by distributing melodic material. In addition, all dynamics and articulations should be taken as suggestions only, as performers are encouraged to make their own interpretations.
